He kept pointing at the wet ball but I don't buy it.. he's just not the bowler you want in a pressure situation.. you want him to bowl out before crunch time but the problem is he started badly which ****ed up plans..

that said we might be talking about how good Prasad is in ODIs if it weren't for that no ball that probably cost the match.

Yeah Mendis is particularly bad with the wet ball - he really struggled in the World T20 with it too, I still don't see the value in picking a specialist bowler who can't bowl under pressure though, we have all-rounders to chew through the easy overs

because you shouldn't 'chew through' the easy overs, you should really attack and get quite a few important wickets in easy overs

Haha ya, 24 is definitely young when you consider that arguably the best-ever ODI wicketkeeper-batsman in the world was a railways ticket inspector and didn't play any professional cricket till the age of 22.

Depends on the game situation, fact is it doesn't matter when he bowls Mendis has nothing when the batsmen take it to him and the pressure is put back on him,

If he bowls in the middle-overs (16-40), batsmen generally can't take it to him without risking the match too early. I personally think he's not being handled in the best possible way.

A good captain for spin bowlers like Ranatunga (or Ganguly) would use Mendis' 10 overs entirely in the middle and with attacking field. More often than not, he'll get you 2-3 important wickets to turn the match.

You could say the same about other spinners who have more potent stock deliveries and can actually adapt their bowling to different conditions and situations, last night was a perfect example of the limitations of Mendis - a rain shortened game means he can be attacked early and it limits the options of the captain - just not good enough from a frontline spinner who doesn't contribute meaningfully in the field or with the bat

Yea Mendis as a specialist bowler is a bit of a luxury atm. And as mentioned by Prince earlier, he isn't likely to be threatening in Aus/NZ. He's numbers look good, but if picking between him or a spinning allrounder like Jeevan Mendis; I'd go Jeevan.

Only teams Buttler wouldn't make as a 'keeper atm would be India, Sri Lanka and South Africa IMO.

All of which he'd made as a #7 batsman without the gloves.

Butler wouldn't make the Indian side. Despite the flak we give them, Raina and Jadeja are actually both very good ODI players who don't deserve to be dropped.

Would be possible to get them all in, but requires either Raina or Dhoni at 4, and runs the risk of 'too much icing, not enough cake'.

So I agree, Buttler would make all ODI teams bar India's. And that's only for team balance reasons.
