Wenger's record with centrebacks is for the most part pretty dubious tstl. So much time spent persisting with players who obviously really did not cut it (Cygan, Senderos, Silvestre, Squillaci, Stepanovs), those who were not terrible but obviously very suspect (Vermaelen, Djourou, Grimandi), and those who turned out to be disasters for other reasons (Gallas).
Mertesacker, Koscielny, Campbell and Toure notable exceptions to this general trend, but still.

Mertesacker has gone to pits this season but nobody has noticed because it's #Monreal'sfault. Ramsey too btw, I blame myself for getting the two of them on my shirts this year.
Wenger clearly ended the transfer window having Chambers as back up right back, which would've been OK, but then the first game after the transfer window Debuchy gets ruled out for 3 months. I think initially he wanted to play Bellerin at right back to keep Chambers as back up CB, but he seemed to lose all confidence in him after one game (derp) and having loaned out Jenkinson that meant Chambers had to fill in at RB. I have some sympathy, in that if the Debuchy injury had occurred one game earlier we almost definitely would've signed a centre back, but it's still piss poor because someone getting injured was always likely and he only has confidence in one of his four young defenders.
That Kramer goal is incredible btw. Hope it puts Tottenham off.

Great banter by United on the same day it's revealed Falcao is still struggling from the aftermath of his ACL injury. They really have no ****ing clue.
Edit: Though it's somewhat comforting to know they'll both score at the Emirates in a fortnight, because Arsenal have no central defence.

Right and wrong. He's gone to pits because he's always needed Koscielny. Even when we had Vermaelen, Mertesacker always looked 100x worse without Kosc.

Yes, this is true. Pretending Monreal is no way at fault won't do any good in any case. Irrespective of where you rate him on the average to crap scale, he is clearly not good enough to play regularly as a centre back. It's not his fault that he's being asked to play there in the first place of course, but that's another matter.

Yeah we're in a similar situation to Spain. Taking far too long to realise that the players that were the best around a few years ago just aren't anymore.
I don't really object to giving RVP a new contract. It's just that the squad only has room for one ageing striker, and instead we have three.

Moyes to Real Sociedad confirmed then. Makes sense, a club who would definitely settle for Everton-Moyes results at the moment.
Looks like Phil Neville won't be joining him though, which will obviously be a huge dent to their chances of getting Cesc Fabregas in January.

This could've been tragic. An indian footballer recently died died just a few weeks back when he fell on his head attempting a somersault celebration, so I was fearing the worst when I saw this. One of the nastiest falls i've ever seen. Thankfully this guy seems to be perfectly ok now.

Finishing 3rd or 4th every season while reaching the CL 2nd round is definitely an above-average performance, given the disparity in resources. Arguably that changed last season with the money spent on Ozil, but then Arsenal fans seemed generally satisfied with the team last year. This is the only season you could say he's done a bad job. But we're only a few games in. They're still very likely finish 3rd, possibly even 2nd, and no other manager could have beaten Chelsea to the title anyway.
My impression is that Arsenal fans are so bored of inevitable 7/10 seasons that a lot are willing to risk finishing 10th for the very small probability that someone new will do a better job. Which I completely understand, and might feel the same way in that situation. But at the same time, let's not pretend that Wenger isn't a good manager.

This season is properly **** though, the only teams we've beaten are Palace, Villa, Sunderland and Burnley and they're all proper relegation candidates.
We dropped points after leading against Leicester, City and Swansea (Hull too really) and were damn lucky to get anything at Everton.
For the first time in a long time we're neither playing well or picking up points and so it's properly ****e. Especially when the reasons were so so so clear before the season. Every other time Wenger has failed to make a signing that the fans have been demanding (Either CB or CDM largely) there's at least been some sort of contingency plan... or any sort of plan. This season we went in relying on Arteta and Flamini again despite it being patently obvious to everyone they're continually getting worse. Unlike other seasons there's no Arteta to convert to playing in that position and no youth to try and develop. There's just a gaping chasm in the squad.
Even more frustratingly is abandoning a system which seems tailor made for our squad and saw us have one of our most successful seasons in a long time last year. Instead we've shafted some of our best players and further exposed our worst. It makes no sense.

It is hard to fathom, and certainly all is not well at the moment, but I will reserve full judgement on this for the time being. As others have said, despite Arsenal being poor, they are still well in contention for the league position they were always likely to achieve, and it's far from the first time in recent years that they've started the season in an unconvincing fashion. They're probably very fortunate that their main rivals for the CL spots have also for the most part been very poor this season - this should not be forgotten when it comes to assessing the season as a whole when it comes to a close.
