I would suggest that his offside game still needs serious development if he is to be a realistic candidate for a Test match gig any time soon, but on today's evidence he really should be banging the door down for winter tour ODI places because this has been an object lesson in how to construct a one-day innings.

Derbyshire were horrid today. Footitt having one of his bad days. Cross shouldn't be retained as the wicketkeeper once the season is over as his batting is crap and based on that innings he isn't much better as a keeper. Really poor effort for a quarter final. Just looked knackered.

Yeah James Taylor really should be in the ODI reckoning, Joe Root should be under serious pressure given his poor form.

Northants release Hall and Spriegel I see. Hall was obviously coming to the end at 39 but I always liked the look of Spriegel at Surrey, even thought he might have captaincy potential at one time. The stats don't lie though, and career f-c averages of 22 and 42 tell their own story. Minor county next year, perhaps.
