Just checked, we play 16 ODI's and four tour matches before the WC. Jimmy missing five here really isn't going to be detrimental to his or our world cup.
Yeah good call.......didn't realise we had that many fixtures coming up.

Not even slightly convinced by Willey.
Fair enough. I'd just be using these 5 to try out the guys who would probably make the extended 30-man squad and see if they're any good at ODI cricket before the World Cup. If the first 15 spontaneously combust on the way to Australia (or, more realistically, if lots of seamers break), it'd be beneficial to at least know Willey is crap so we're not finding out he's crap in a World Cup Quarter Final.

I think Willey will find it hard to get in the side now if he hasn't had a look in yet. Just don't see us being brave enough to go with new players this late.

Is anyone really taking the possiblity that Dhoni will quit the captaincy seriously?

I would highly, highly doubt that it would end in a positive result for India as he seriously is the only one with the credentials, maturity, brain, form to hold that role. I would have hoped Kohli would have been in line considering his long apprencticeship at international level but clearly he's not in a great spot right now.
The only real possibility I can see is the recall of a senior player or two, hopefully based on actual Ranji form rather than emotional-ridden knee-jerk responses to this sort of failure i.e. Sehwag. I do think India need some more leadership in the side, whether in the captaincy or not, but yeah with the whole swathe of senior statesmen, Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Khan, Harbajhan, looking really just about finished now, it mightn't be that easy.

I don't think he will and I don't think he should. I think the chances of India winning in Australia are practically zero, and chances are it could be quite nasty, so I think you'd be feeding a new captain to the lions if Dhoni quits now. Maybe after then, sure.

Dhoni should have resigned at various points since 2011 but this is literally the time when he shouldn't.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. We'll avenge our 2011 whitewash by lulling you poms into a false sense of dominance for a decade. Then in the summer of 2022, when overlord Srini decrees that DRS can only be used by India, we'll demolish you 1-0. It shall be glorious.

Cool stat: In the last 18 months two of the sides ranked in the top 3 in the world have gone stretches of 9 test matches without a victory.

I recall a very similar conversation regarding who should replace Cook a few games ago. Seems that neither side has a stand-out successor atm.

Since when are England going to reach the Quarter Finals?

Aha, was about to say 'wholly uninspiring' but beaten by Pothas. Is that for the whole series?

Carberry being in the mix the only thing of note.

That's horrible reasoning

I don't think India or England have a chance in hell against Oz with Dhoni and Cook as their captains

As such, they have nothing to lose by appointing someone else
