Which unorthodox spinners are you thinking of that were good vs. England overseas but not in England? There aren't that many in general but I remember Ajmal causing some problems during the on-the-take tour.
Which unorthodox spinners are we thinking of? I can only really think of two; Ajmal and Mendis. One was good in England, the other was garbage.

Oh and Tahir, maybe. He wasn't great.

The anti-Broad sentiment is too easy to emerge each time he has a bad game IMO. Only him and Stokes who emerged with any face from the Ashes in the winter and over a period of about 2 years has been our most reliable bowler

If he didn't have a big mouth people wouldn't get at him so much IMO
Said this for years, just SOOOO tiresome. Honestly Woakes or Jordan replacing him, just ridiculous. He has annoyed me this Summer, but no more than Bell and no-ones calling for his dropping because of previous performance. Why is it different for Broad?

Yeah, I guess the pattern is that good bowlers do well but bad ones do badly. But I would say Ashwin is closer to Ajmal's quality than Tahir's.

Cbf to scroll up and quote the post where you addressed me directly, but, and hey this is from memory so I could be wrong, but I don't recall us struggling excessively with Ajmal at home. He played well but it was nothing mesmerising that made you think 'these ****s can't play spin' which I guess is what I thought you were implying. It could all have just been relative to the two cheats bowling seam though.

I love him but he doesn't look right at present. I hope it is just Cook's fault in overbowling him and a break between the 2nd and 3rd test solves the issue.

Another thing about Ashwin is he's dominated every home series he's played and done poorly every away series he's played (with the ball) bar the England series at home in 2012.

Don't know whether they had that in mind but he's average 50+ v England on wickets that were made to suit him, so it's hard to say with any confidence that he'd have done really well in England.

Haha, I see.

Would you select Woakes over Stokes? I know you wouldn't base if off that random stat :p but I'm curious.
No, I wouldn't drop Stokes (hence the  smiley), especially as he's playing as a bowling all-rounder at the moment, but I do think it's something to bare in mind in the next couple of tests.

Edit: I actually would've played him instead of Plunkett from the SL squads, in a similar balance to this side. Don't really see how they can get both he and Stokes in the side though, especially with Prior, Broad and Plunkett there.
