I think they're similar abilities with the bat. You could argue that Read's figures are more impressive as he plays in the first Division with Notts, whereas Foster's Essex are in Division 2.

I still think Broad's better as first change than opening the innings. It's such a shame the way Finn's career has gone, as he should be a natural opening partner for Anderson.
