Nah, you guys a playing 3 specialist bowlers, 1 genuine allrounder (who is easily a test quality 4th seamer), a batsman who bowls better than part-time offspin, and a handy part-timer in Root. What I loathe (aside from shyteness) is that one can't really see what the end game with this team is supposed to be.
If we are rebuilding and the phrase is supposed to be anything but a euphemism for "more that faintly turd", why are we playing three specialist seamers, a batting all-rounder at eight, no specialist spinner and a thirty-two year old keeper who's out of form and increasingly injury and bollock prone?
God love the beard, but he's not a test spinner's arsehole and Cook clearly doesn't trust him. With some justification.
I hate to indulge in the facile "if one removes a player's best performance they look rubbish" fallacy, but as good as his undefeated ton was, all of his actual test dismissals look a little ordinary too.
I guess if you take 100+ off India's score and nearly 40 overs from their innings and then 60 odd from England's score we'd be looking at a result for sure. The tail batting for so long again. The tail end batting is beginning to annoy me a lot now. How many times it has led to draws now?
We've got half a new lineup since then ffsBatting not the problem with this team apparently.
I agree with both points that tail end batting has improved and bowling to tailenders has gone down as an art. However I don't think England are the worst at it. I have seen pretty much every team suffer significantly from it. Maybe Aus with an in form Johnson didn't or perhaps SA a little less but other than that every team has sufferedI guess if you take 100+ off India's score and nearly 40 overs from their innings and then 60 odd from England's score we'd be looking at a result for sure.
I know tail end batting has improved out of site in recent years but I do think the art of bowling to the tail has been lost a little as well.........England being the worst.
Nup, he is making his main bowlers work like dogs, getting carried away, he must remember its a 5 test series, he'll need atleast 2 out of the 3 pace bowlers in good shape till the last game. On this flat pitch, even Ishant and Shami are going at 4 an over, he should have let Binny bowl a few more, or if he wants to be ultra defensive like he usually is, he should have given Jadeja a lot more overs.Like that Dhoni turned his nose up at Binny. If this boy gets a second test, he will probably send him in at number 9.
Backup seamers are on about the same level as these lot though. So doesn't really have to play the same all matches necessarily.Nup, he is making his main bowlers work like dogs, getting carried away, he must remember its a 5 test series, he'll need atleast 2 out of the 3 pace bowlers in good shape till the last game. From the backup seamers, Pankaj is surely there, but we'll have to wait and see if Ishwar Pandey can do the job. But we do need Bhuvi and Shami to play atleast 3-4 tests, assuming that they'll be rested when required.Backup seamers are on about the same level as these lot though.
