Cheers, shows how much they care about this T20 series, Hard to blame them to be fair... Hit & giggle etc
Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum says Sodhi will play.
McCullum says the wicket should favour Sodhi's type of bowling and they're using the series as a chance to build more depth.
Craig deserves one of the 20 central contracts to be dished out this month, on the strength of his debut series. It means a tricky choice for coach Mike Hesson with Ish Sodhi their special project, a gifted legspinner but not consistent enough yet. Both will go to the United Arab Emirates for three tests against Pakistan in November, coach Mike Hesson said, with the pecking order undecided.
"We picked Mark based on the fact we played a couple of left-arm seamers and we thought an offspinner was important for us, and he bowled nicely. He contributed with the bat, and he's just growing in his skin. We've got two good young spinners and they're both a big part of our future. They're not the finished product yet, but they're guys that spin the ball hard and we think have got a lot of skill," Hesson said.
Another contender, Martin Guptill, averaged 74.7 in the Plunket Shield but is currently undergoing a six-month batting "warrant of fitness" with guru Martin Crowe, to remedy some technical flaws.
that's superb news. It's clear that getting him in the team with the same technical flaws would be horrible. And it's great to see that they've reconciled with Crowe and are able to use his services.
Well that definitely trumps my flight with the Indian cricket team. I was like "Sachin who?".Has anyone ever worked on their game as hard as M.Guptil. Boy he deserves to succeed.
Time to break out my Guptil story. I was on the same flight as the blackcaps 2 years ago. They were heading to the west indies. They all boarded in suits then got changed into track pants in first class. Then back into suits to disembark in san francisco. I saw Dean Brownlie, BJ, and Martin Guptil behind me as I was wheeling my bag through the airport.
So I chose Guptil as being the most approachable and turned to him and said
"Martin Guptil....good luck in the West Indies".
Then he nodded and acknowledged me and said "Thanks man"
Then BJ and Brownlie stiffened and looked nervous like I was going to approach them but I left them alone.
Brownlie looks like a movie star and had real presence by the way for some reason.
O'Rly?Give him KW's technique (for example) and he would average considerably more than 30.
I don't think this is true, but anyway; could say the same thing about Devcich. Or freaking Tim Southee. He averaged around 30 despite being a technical mess.
He's a contender for having the best hand-eye coordination of any cricketer in the country. He's a ridiculous talent who had a poor technique. Give him KW's technique (for example) and he would average considerably more than 30.
Watling's always been very competent technically though.Phlegm rates Guptill's temperament and mental competence though. He wants a Watling-esque second wind, is what he's saying.
I don't really get Flem's argument. I think it goes back to Flem's unique belief that talent boils down to hand eye coordination (which he believes Martin has) and technique being something external you acquire somehow.Phlegm rates Guptill's temperament and mental competence though. He wants a Watling-esque second wind, is what he's saying.
Absolutely. In an alternative universe where he took up batting and specifically "batting with a brain" instead of bowling he could be a test batsman.I don't think this is true, but anyway; could say the same thing about Devcich. Or freaking Tim Southee.
No he hasn't.Watling's always been very competent technically though.
It is. No one is born with their batting technique. Sure some stuff feels more comfortable, but KW didn't pop out of his mother with the batting textbook in his brain. i can't take technique = talent seriously.I don't really get Flem's argument. I think it goes back to Flem's unique belief that talent boils down to hand eye coordination (which he believes Martin has) and technique being something external you acquire somehow.
wtf is this meant to mean? We're all still stuck with that hangover from Christianity, tbh. It's better to be born with something than to acquire it through hard work.
