***Official*** New Zealand in the West Indies 2014

The most painful thing about this loss is having to sit here and read all these Blocky posts without being able to come back as I would like because ultimately we lost.

Ramdin I hate you!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know the feeling brother, which is why I have chosen to ignore said poster and his obnoxious (at times) posts. I suggest we continue our dialogue in the WI cricket discussion section and hopefully certain posters have enough decorum to stay away

Be like the West Indies early 80's side, won't get them as they all get wickets hunting in a pack.
This - it's why Murali has way more 5fers than Warne. 5 wicket bags are to a large extent a reflection of the weakness of the other bowlers - it's as if "scoring 50% of team runs this innings" was a common stat.

In Russia November weather minus 25
I find you somewhat intriguing.

Are you only interested in cricket because you enjoy gambling, or do you have a genuine interest in the game? I don't mind either way, just that I'm not aware of many Russian cricket fans.

JimmyGS has also whipped $100,000 out of Corey Anderson's pocket.

It is understood that Anderson was refused clearance to play in the CPL by New Zealand Cricket, with potential concerns over how much cricket the injury prone all rounder’s body can handle ahead of the World Cup. He is set to play the Champions League T20 in September for the Mumbai Indians.

Neesham’s contract with Guyana is understood to be around US$100,000.

Hang on, so ND have had their star allrounder stolen by the Indians for the CL? And when ND get hammered we'll have to hear about what a little country we are with a poor domestic competition who could never have hoped to compete.

Figures. Would they like Southee and Boult while they're at it?

that's the way CL has worked since its inception.

Even Baz will play for his IPL team first and foremost.

Earlier in an interview on Radio Live, Neesham revealed there had been ongoing discussions about converting him to an opener. He did not elaborate on whether the approach came from Hesson or captain Brendon McCullum.

The opening partner for Tom Latham in New Zealand's next test series against Pakistan in November remains up in the air after Peter Fulton was dropped and Hamish Rutherford's struggles continued in the Caribbean.

''It is something I haven't done a whole lot of in the past but for this team to win games then you want to have guys like Corey in the middle order, who is a massive asset for us with his bowling as well, so I think it is something that might be looked at in the future. But at the moment I'm quite happy in the middle order," Neesham said.

And would that extend to test cricket?

''The opening spot has been a little bit of trouble for New Zealand over the last couple of years and it is one of those things you are always looking for solution and new ways for going about getting a test victory, so if that in the future is something that will give our team a better balance then it will be something that will be looked at.''

New Zealand will use their 15-man test squad for the T20 internationals, with player of the series Kane Williamson likely to partner Neesham at the top, Hesson said.

Yes I know this.

I just think it's cute how the IPL teams think they're so wonderful for winning this competition when they've done it by buying everyone elses players and have a competition which allows more overseas players than the competitions of other countries.

If they had to play by the same rules as everyone else the competition would be very different. Especially since if one domestic team wins it's comp because they had IPL players in it, and then the IPL teams take those players with their handbags full of money the Champions League becomes diluted in quality, making it easier for the IPL sides. It's basically a weakened ND v the world XI plus a couple of Indians.

I love to hate ND because of some of the trolls they've produced and Kippax' infamous "agribusiness" stuff but watching Southee and Boult rip through hapless domestic Indian batsmen (all two of them in the entire competition) will be sweet.

Well, it's basically stripping out all of the old morality tales, the attention towards aesthetics and decorousness in cricket, and turning it into just a commodity. It's looking at the sport with an amoral and purely statistical eye.

Our overall aim was always to earn the right to win on the final day," said Bradburn. "You can't win a match on the first day: that's where you put in place the building blocks.

"Then you look at holding the momentum - the game is full of swings back and forth in that department - and staying patient. You'll make a few errors but the Plunket Shield points system rewards wins rather than draws or losses.

"For instance, with the bat, it's hard to play expansive shots from the start. You've got to earn the right to play those by spending time at the crease, at least in cricket's longer forms."

Bradburn has seen value in an objective Moneyball-type selection policy. The movie Moneyball relates to a Michael Lewis book where the Oakland Athletics baseball team and their general manager Billy Beane focused on an analytical, evidence-based approach to assembling a competitive team with limited funds.

In cricket, a coach might rely on variables such as strike rates, fitness test results and wagon wheel analysis in combination with traditional measures like averages and intuition.

I think you're doing yourself an injustice here.

The phrase "agribusiness" captures a fair bit more than that.

It's the attention that the Agriculture sector gets from the Government in the way that it's prepared to bend over backwards to provide for a sector that while yes, is very important to the economy, should not have other, more innovative and long term solutions shelved in sacrifice. Milk exports might be NZ's major industry now but that doesn't mean we should for example artificially devalue our dollar so that other industries have a hard time. Nor does it mean that farmers should be exempt from carbon tax etc etc. As soon as the world realises that milk is a luxury product, our economy will be screwed.

Similarly, the Black Caps may have had our greatest success with the classic dibble-dobbly seamers and a plethora of bit-part all rounders, but that doesn't mean that we should ignore truly class batsmen and fast bowlers and adopt slow low pitches for a temporary shot at a world cup. As soon as the world realises that those dibbly cobblers should be smashed out of the park, the team will be screwed.
