Round of 16 matches

Norwood's on Fire
Nowhere near the frequency and the hilarity that it does on soccer.

Tbf, not many sports have he same style of contact as footy. Everywhere else it seems to be full on (Rugby codes, Aussie and American footy) or none at all. Being in the middle somewhat means it's always going to be open to abuse, I guess.

This whole World Cup is in such a perfect time zone for those of us on the east coast. I can watch pretty much every game. In surprised how much I'm getting into it.
You got quite into it last time round as well though! Pick a team and post in the domestic threads ffs!

There's other things that happen way too much in soccer for sure, but I'm talking specifically about receiving legitimate contact and going down easily to make sure the foul is awarded, or encouraging contact which you know will result in a foul, which I do think happens in every sport where there's any sort of rule involving a foul being given because of contact to the body. AFL is one of the tougher sports you'll find and people milk the **** out of contact above the shoulders or in the back, both of which are free kicks, or for instance people will duck their head and shrug their shoulders to force a tackle around the arms up above the shoulder to try and get a free. The same sorts of things happen in the rugby codes, in basketball people milk contact for fouls all the time... really it's almost universal.

What does happen more here is people faking injuries and trying to get other players carded, and probably outright simulation as well and all of those things are a blight on the sport. But that's not what happened here.

I don't like this wait between games, have found myself watching Countryfile and now Antiques Roadshow.

Exactly. Players milk contact all the time at the ruck in League in order to try and win penalties, because a penalty and a new set of 6 is such a huge advantage.

Not yet. But for sure this time.

I was going for Liverpool just 'cause of their song but then I found out Suarez plays for them, so that's clearly out. So now I'm not sure. Newcastle looks good, so they're up there. I would pick some of the smaller teams but I can't really pick anyone that I can't see on TV on a regular basis in the states, so that's limiting. Also, Man U and Chelsea were the last two English winners, so they're out - I can't stand people who jump on the bandwagon when the teams are doing well.

Nah you don't want Newcastle.

Everton I reckon.

We sure don't have enough of them on CW. We don't have any Chelsea fans at all do we? Not that I am advocating anyone supporting them.

Will be exceedingly conflicted come the quarters if Costa Rica win this. Holland are probably my preferred winners but on the other hand the further Costa Rica go the funnier it will be.

And that was a penalty.

Yeah, although bizarrely the bloke who was trying to score seems to have been the only one in the ground who's seen it.

Maybe not. Three Costa Ricans on the ground supposedly injured? Come on. This is by far the most annoying part of soccer.
