***Official*** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2014

Gotta feel for the england fans...just devastation after devastation these days. Watched on like everyone else and was actually willing England to get across the line but Jimmy!!..my word son couldn't he have taken a hit or just plain ducked away from it? it was clear what they were doing as they bowled several bouncers before the wicket..(smh).

I don't know where England go from here...tough series vs India starting and this result will give them confidence i suspect..despite losing their last two series. England need a frontline spinner badly and just hope the batting order can learn from this.

As for SL..one suspects this will be one of the last major acomplishments from the involving the three class acts that are Sanga, Mahila and Hereth..once those three go i can see SL slipping tbh...especially as the pace department still leaves a lot to be desired imo and no new test spinner has emerged yet.

Wow. Two cracking finishes to the Tests in this series.

Kudos to Moeen. Wasn't sure if he'd do well at this level but that was a seriously gun innings.

It's 3 Tests for Sri Lanka next time they tour, because they're next here in 2016 alongside Pakistan, who the ECB have only deemed worthy of 4 Tests.

it's not about how well you compete, it's about the money from selling the broadcasting rights.
you are correct but i am sure that the public will want to see a three test series if its a close as this one and that will generate finances to the ECB

Congrats to SL, as an England fan gutted that we came so close but it really would have been a travesty if we'd have pulled it off..........Sri Lanka thoroughly deserved this series win and nothing less.

England were dire for the best part of this test but trying to take some positives out of the shambles.......all of our newbies stood up at one point or other over the series. I think all of Ali, Robson, Balance, Plunkett, Jordan and Root (if we're still calling him a noob) can feel like they didn't disgrace themselves in what was a pretty disgraceful performance overall (and I honestly mean no disrespect to SL here, they were epic)

Well missed it all but so so pleased for Moeen.

As for the rest of it, well I have no idea what they do from here, got to keep with that side pretty much for India I suppose.

Great work SL. So annoying this wasn't on TV here. What a finish. After 30 odd years, they've answered my entreaties and done something away from home.

And Angelo - WAG

Sri Lanka cut it rather fine in both games but we got the result we wanted in the end. Absolutely thrilled, after everything that went on before and during the tour it's extremely satisfying to win the series. With our two best matchwinners in the form of their lives it's important we make this year count and win these kinds of series'

They will all play on until at least the WC, the emergance of Matthews and the development of our pace attack was just as clear on this tour as the importance of the 3 you mentioned though, we'll see when the time comes

Isn't it a bit of a concern that all the players have stood up at some point in the series, and yet it still ended in a loss? I mean, Cook, Bell, Broad and Anderson all have credit built up in the bank (Cook's deteriorating far quicker than the others'), while Robson, Ballance, Moeen, Plunkett and Jordan are all new faces and performed at some point.

That leaves Root, who was very good, and Prior, who was terrible.

The options basically become demolishing the core of the old side even further, and picking a presumably inconsistent youngster in their place, or persisting with the not-quite-as-good-as-they-once-were-but-experienced-customers for the sake of some stability in the team.
