Isn't it a bit of a concern that all the players have stood up at some point in the series, and yet it still ended in a loss? I mean, Cook, Bell, Broad and Anderson all have credit built up in the bank (Cook's deteriorating far quicker than the others'), while Robson, Ballance, Moeen, Plunkett and Jordan are all new faces and performed at some point.

That leaves Root, who was very good, and Prior, who was terrible.

The options basically become demolishing the core of the old side even further, and picking a presumably inconsistent youngster in their place, or persisting with the not-quite-as-good-as-they-once-were-but-experienced-customers for the sake of some stability in the team.
Two test series.

On performances in this game the players that deserve to be dropped are the four that won't be. Cook, Prior, Broad and Anderson

I enjoyed Cabinet96's exchange with this knob following the tweet.

SL you barstewards, if you had done a proper job and got it finished before tea then Cook would be a goner but as we almost saved the game we are stuck with the chump for another series.

Not fair.

I was just viewing this series through cricinfo mind but I thought it was exciting. Whereas I'd normally pick up on the scores in a coffee break I got up every morning just to find out what happened over night after I went to bed as late as I dared just to keep track on the games. Congrats both teams and especially Lanka on their success. Their good bowling and Eng's bad batting deciding the series.

England haven't had a properly successful opener other than Cook (too early to judge Robson) since about 2009? Given we've had four I'd be pretty happy with a replacement never.
