Ah, they probably just literally looked at the forecast, decided it probably wouldn't rain long and figured that'd mean a game. Drainage is horrible though.

^ Welegedara and Lakmal next in line to get battered.. I find it curious that Vaas didn't do well in Eng.. is it that he didn't have enough pace? or the duke ball? I'm sure that the ability to swing the ball both ways wasn't the issue.. he averaged 22.55 in 8 tests in NZ for example.

Gurney seems like an awfully weird selection. He's a decent bowler obviously, but he's 27, so not young, has a very mediocre record, but had a good season last season. Surely if the whole left-armer debate is the reason for his selection, a guy like Mills would have been a better choice (until his injury). I've not seen a lot of Gurney though, what do you guys think? He good enough? Should blokes be picked just because they're left handed?

Yeah, at least he's a batsman though, so he'd probably be the first to admit it. It's far more grating when someone picked primarily based on their bowling comes on and bowls like that.
