Lakmal dropping short with alarming consistency now, spin is definitely needed to mix things up a bit I think

Love it when Ireland take heaps of early wickets, it's the only thing they can do with the best. Shoot the oppo out for an under par score and allow Porterfield to revel in the role of space occupier.

The behind the bowler camera would be great for Mendis, can't really see what's going on with him

mendis is dangerous against batsmen that have never faced him.. he destroyed india when he came into the scene so not surprising ire is having trouble.

Well that's what happens. You leave the guy out when he killed it last season. How the **** does that not demotivate a player. Won't be surprised if he doesn't perform well this season. Just took 4 wickets in the first innings vs Somerset though.
If he doesn't perform this year then it's more justification for not picking him for the winter tours, not less.

Yeah, in the end he's had his chance to push this year, if he wasn't motivated I don't know why. Places up for grabs.

He's not getting any younger, and looks down on pace which is understandable with all his injury problems. Time to move on.

Not exactly a surprise mendis did well against a team who's barely faced him, but I still see no role for him in our WC plan. Really good stuff from kula today, and a decent showing from lakmal too

Mendis is a reasonable limited overs bowler.

But he's inconsistent and not suited to the kind of conditions that he'll find in Australia/NZ next year, also, given that we'll probably only play one spinner each game (given Dilshan can provide some spport spin bowling) I can't see him getting a place over either Herath or Sachi, so playing him here was a waste of time IMO.

difficult one to call that, as he does seem to do well whenever he plays. I think its down to the pace that he bowls at rather than the amount of spin he gets.Couldn't watch the match as had to work so commenting on the socrecard rather than the match but well done to SL on defending a below par score. The Irish bowlers look to have put us under pressure but hopefully it was just becuase the conditions (and the weather LOL) were unfamiliar. Lets see if we can give a better performance in second match. The main thing for me is that we started off the tour with a win..

He does well every now and then, but the difference between his best and worst and his failure to find a consistent balance between those extremes will always hold him back, no matter how many times he reminds us how good he can be

Looks like we'll get a delayed start, but the forecast is apparently good so we should see a full match, or at least we won't lose too many overs. I'm hoping SL try at least one or two changes, I'd like to see Chatarunga de Silva and Eranga have a go today, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
