Anderson has repeatedly looked clueless against Narine since then, first in the Hamilton Test and then in the IPL. Could just be a bogey bowler, but that's where the "bad against spin" thing is coming from. Personally I think he's far better against spin than pace as a Test batsman, especially by New Zealand standards, but it could be a different story in T20 cricket. Flatter T20 wickets mean he can hit the quicks through the line, and the nature of the game means his terrible offstump judgement against seamers isn't really a factor while his inability to read mystery spinners from the hand is exasperated as he needs to be attacking them.

Disagree. He doesn't really get away with it at all, which is why his record isn't very good compared to his obvious talent.

To me, a first class average of 36 indicates that he's got away with it to some extent. That's about the best we can expect from someone with no front foot game on the off side. He's not going to have a good record until he develops a cover drive at the very least.

Usman says hello.
I would think that Anderson could make it to Khawaja's level with his current technique, but he'd be far better off actually developing his batsmanship so that he's not a sitting duck against pace bowling at test level. We'll see.

Love that calling Narine a ****er is okay, but a chucker and he crosses the line.

The line between okay and offensive sledging is there, but its weird.

Calling him a chucker right after you've been bowled just reeks of sour grapes and makes you look pathetic. It's more that than it being offensive per se.

Interesting. So if he called him a chucker from slip you reckon it'd be less of an issue?

As I said, lines are there, but they are weird. Not saying they are right and wrong. Just find it fascinating what is deemed acceptable and not sometimes.

Would be to me, yeah, although I think the idea that "chucker" is worse because you're accusing someone of cheating rather than just dishing out a meaningless generic insult to vent frustration does transcend when you do it a bit too. Obviously a very separate point to the one I just made, but I do think there's a bit of that as well.

Yeah I do get what you mean. I'm often a bit perplexed by cricket on this front as well. Claiming a grassed catch being such a taboo compared to other entirely dishonest acts (not walking, appealing for lbw when you see an inside edge, etc) is one that has always stumped me a bit. I think it probably stems from the fact that it's unspeakably hard for umpires to really tell so we really are relying on the players to be honest about it.

He has excellent offstump judgement against seamers - this is how he manages to get away with having basically no offside driving ability.
um it's one of his favourite shots and he plays it very well when the ball is there for it.

the problem is he likes it a little too much. watch every ball in the 167 *front foot* *swish* *ball beats bat* happens a lot. anderson can play all the shots - he just doesn't know when to leave because of his lack of off stump judgement to the pitched up quicks.

Solid catches by Starc!

Viru's played sensibly in this IPL without throwing his bat at every ball. Wish he would do that more often.

We have got so used to Virat not failing at all. And he has failed 3 matches in a row now, though to a marginally bad decision this time. Am sure he will hit atleast 50 next match.
