Why are you all shocked? This was so on. Bangladesh were missing Shakib and Tamim and they are a **** team.
No I disagree mate. With all due respect to Afghanistan, there is no way that Bangladesh should be losing to them, irrespective of missing two players. If i were a Bangladeshi I would be disgusted by this performance- even if they pull it off(which looks unlikely). On the other hand,HUGE credit and admiration to thr Afghanistan boys for this type of performance .Lovely to see them doing well after all they have had to go through..

Of course they shouldn't be losing. But they are a very very bad team and losing a game like this was extremely possible. And it just happened. And it was no fluke. In fact Afghanistan fielded poorly and still won.

Of course it's a shock, not on the quality of the sides, but because of the rarity and importance of it in the cricketing sphere. Huge win for an entire countries cricketing status have huge pressures on the players.

No, not a massive shock in the schemes of a game, but possibly seismic in other ways.

So nice to see the Afghans beat Bangladesh.

Nothing personal against Bangladesh. It's just that one enjoys an upset now and then.

Nah, who am I kidding? :p Bangladesh screwed us twice in major tournaments. Payback's a tough bitch. Swirl it all around the mouth, coat you palate with it and swallow down that bitter medicine. Hope it makes you sick enough that you regurgitate it back up and have to taste it again.

massive congrats to Afghanistan on this victory. Superb for them. As for Bangladesh, where do they go from here?
I know it was said that this win was similar to if bang beat pak,but thr difference IMHO is that Ban have been playing against top level opposition for quite a while whilst the Afghanis have only been playing associate level cricket,so to step up and then win is a fantastic achievement..

well played Afghanistan. Congratulations. Thanks to that 1999 WC loss of ours to the bangers that got them the test status other associate nations now have the bangers as an entry point to test status :p

I look at the Afghanistan team and I see a lot of talent there to work with. That bowling attack is definitely better than at least 2 Test nations' attacks. Their batting is still weak and their fielding is poor, but this would have been a complete thrashing had they not dropped all those catches.

Undoubtedly Afghanistan has the raw talent and physicality to be a dark horse team in 5-10 years. They'll overtake Bangladesh pretty quickly I think. Pakistan and Afghanistan can make up for inconsistency with raw physicality and talent. Bangladesh can't and they don't have the population/resources of India.

don't really think India or Bangladesh has any less natural talent than Pakistan or Afghanistan, tbh.

This Afghanistan team continues to impress. Amazing to see the quick bowlers they have produced so far.

Amazing that so many of the players are the same that started in that tournament in Jersey a few years ago.

If you include the physical aspects then they have considerably less per person than Pakistan, Afghanistan or any other country for that matter.

Obviously infrastructure is important as well but there are reasons why India and Bangladesh have painfully average seam bowlers whilst Pakistan can pluck them out of obscurity for fun. And a more extreme case with West Indies when cricket was much bigger there and the talent wasn't being lost to ****house American sport and athletics.

Well played Afghanistan, thoroughly deserved victory. I shouldn't be too upset as I nearly always back underdogs.

Absolutely disgusted with this performance (not necessary the result) and the previous performances in the Sri Lanka series. Too many things have been going wrong for too long a time. From top to bottom there is an an endemic attitude; from the crook directors of the BCB who are only concerned with filling their pockets, to the players in the national team who once achieve a bit of fame and financial gain are only too happy to rest on their laurels and go with the status quo.

There have been rumours of dressing room cliques, attitude problems, diva-like tantrums and superstar egos. Who do these players think they are? the England cricket team? At least England had achieved a bit of success before self-destructing. What exactly have Bangladesh achieved in all these years as a Test playing nation. Pretty much SFA.

There needs to be a review to find out all the failings. Tough questions need to be asked and heads need to roll. There needs to be accountability:
Why are certain "superstar" players allowed to go shoot commercials the day before an ODI. Shouldn't they be preparing for the game?
Why was the entire squad given a rest day after the India defeat, shouldn't they be doing extra work and preparing for the Afghanistan game?
Why keep selecting under performing players, why select Test specialists in ODIs/T20s and vice versa.
Why keep making the same mistakes over and over again?
Why so defensive tactics and a defeatist mentality. Why crumble at the first sign of pressure.
Why always go for the cheap option, from coaches to facilities.

I'm gradually losing interest in the game, and I'm not sure I can be bothered following such amateurs. Unless major changes are made I think this is the last straw for me ( and I guess many others).

RIP Bangladesh Cricket.

Per person is kinda a weird thing to consider when you're talking about India and Bangladesh (or Pakistan and Afghanistan).

Both countries are pretty damn diverse. There's plenty of natural athletic talent there. The reason they don't produce good fast bowlers is because the conditions are awful for fast bowling and they don't nurture fast bowlers from the grass roots.

They may not have resources, but feck, they have 1/3 of India's population. 2nd most populous country playing cricket.

Are you out of your mind? Bangladesh's population is less than Pakistan. It is not even close to 1/5th of India's

@Scaly......there isn't really much difference in physicality between Indians and Pakistanis. It is about role models. It wasn't a coincidence that express fast bowlers only started emerging after Imran became the biggest celebrity in Pakistan's history.

Population doesn't count for **** when you have that staggering amount of poverty in the country along with malnutrition, corruption and poor infrastructure. People who trot out the population remarks out are absolutely clueless and it pisses me off so much.
