Over-rated things in cricket

yeah but it's not about whose outswinger is better or whatever, it's that the potency of the stock delivery matters more than having both swing variations, despite how excited people get about guys who can swing it both ways, that's why I think it's a little overrated
Yep, this

kph is a ridiculous measurement so can we please stick to fractions of the speed of light so that we all have a real idea as to how fast something is travelling? Also, the person that decided that the distance travelled by light in 1/299792458 seconds should equal 1 metre must have been on drugs. After all, how is that different to 1/299792459, 1/299792457, or some other random number?

Sorry, but units snobbery when there is actually no inherent advantage to any one system of units over another in context really, really irritates me.
Except that the Statute Mile is defined as exactly 1609.344 Metres, which I find pretty ironic.

Incidently, the speed of light had to be first calculated at 299,722,458 m/s before a Metre can be determined. Now that is incredible if you stop and think about it because the scientific genius to do such a thing is astounding.

Anyway, what that really has to do about cricket I'm not sure. Probably nothing.

People rate Marshall and Wasim as their greatest bowler because of the variety of incredible deliveries they could bowl not because of their stock delivery. Although Waqar does prove that you only need one type of delivery to be amazing.

For such a short time too?

Only reason I can think could be the light at the end of the day as they closed after the 3 overs.

The reputation of WG Grace, his figures should be re-examined as he was such a cheat. He would be bowled and then put the bails back and say to the bowler, "The crowd has come to see me bat, not you bowl". Can you imagine the look on the faces of the likes of Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh or Colin Croft if he'd done that to them.....!!!!!

didn't he score 220 against 22 fielders and on a field with long grass. I would say he is underrated.
His reputation varies wildly from person to person. Some people list him as the 3rd best player of all time. For many others he doesn't crack the top 50.

I forget where CW ranked him in our latest poll a year ago.

Forgive me if you weren't looking for a serious reply and if you knew all of this - I just felt like making a post about the man. In terms of partially agreeing with you apparently he and not the aussies invented sledging so that is a knock against him in my book.

WG, like almost everyone who has made a living from playing cricket, had a tendency to try it on - if he's overrated on that score then so is everyone else - for another example by all accounts it was all but impossible to get an LBW decision against the Don in Adelaide, and Cec Pepper saying as much put an end to his chance of a Test career, and it was even harder to get one against Javed Miandad in Pakistan, but I don't think you can really say either of them were overrated as a result

WG was an overweight, cheating, sissy voiced tosspot full of his own self importance.

Was he even a real doctor? Probably just did Chinese herbal medicine or something

What was that statistic of WG's where he scored more than half the total number if centuries in an FC season? Was something ridiculous. 1878 was the year unless I'm mistaken

He was a doctor but it took him ages to qualify. When he did, he was very........laid back in his approach to his work! As a cricketer he was allegedly an amateur but was paid more than most professionals.

Most of the dummies who run various boards and committees. Where do they get these guys from? Most of them are "the right sort of chap" no doubt, clink a few glasses and grease a few palms, but they have not played the game. Most of the folks on here have a greater appreciation and knowledge of the game. Its just the same at the F.A and F.I.F.A......Sepp Blatter anyone???
