Don't give them a sniff if we have any say in the matter. Nothing more generous than 400 in 70 overs for me, I wouldn't write-off this Indian batting line-up, particularly with the wicket looking likely to hold together.
Besides, there's only a 1 ICC point difference between a 1-0 and 2-0 series win and the McHessons seem intent on moving up in the test rankings.
Thanks for this post Zinzan I had to sift through a lot of noise to find what I was looking for discussion on the declaration. Baz will probably (I am 90% sure) declare overnight. He absolutely should not declare and should score another 50 runs to the team total to make the game safe, but he likes to be aggressive and chase wins - and as the captain he will feel that he must sacrifice his own chance at a triple in favour of team success.
I just hope he gets talked out of it. We could lose and probably would lose if he declares right now. They would quite conceivably chase down 330.
I also believe that given we are already 1-0 up in the series a triple century at this point would do more for New Zealand cricket than a 2-0 series win (vs a 1-0 series win).
In terms of highlights of the day. I didn't sit by Sonny shaw today so was less disturbed by his antics. I told the lads I would have run on the field 1980s style and shaken his hand if he had've brought up 300 today. He actually gave it a try at one point when he was on about 240 he went after Zaheer but couldn't lay bat on ball because he was exhausted and mentally tired.
Again at the end of the day there was a standing ovation. This time we stood and clapped until he was all the way off the field. Longest standing ovation I have seen.
There was a thread entitled what is the most important aspect of captaincy - and I voted for leading from the front instead of on field tactics like most of CW did. This has been an incredible captain's inning. It was amazing clapping him when he reached his double. Again the whole crowd stood (including the Indian fans and Jono who was beside me without a millisecond of hesitation I will add). I feel like I was watching cricketing history being made in front of my eyes. Very important knock by Neesham as well. His innings was critical at that point. I was not surprised to hear that Baz can't remember anything from the last hour of batting.
Finally as a funny note after he flailed and missed at Zaheer 4 times in a row we all became scared he would get out. On the 5th ball of the over he played a leave and I have never heard a leave be applauded as loudly. The fans were riding each delivery.
Plenty of fans were talking about taking the day off work tommorow. I sadly can't and gave away my match pass to my buddy. I will be in a meeting as well between 11am and 12 noon and will try to get someone text me so I can know real time if the triple happens.
