Highly sorry to be debating the three (four including McCullum) most contentious issues in the NZ cricket team during a thread about an NZ cricket tour.
My point isn't about the subject matter per se. It is about the tone, exemplified in the post above. I love the banter here. The sense of fun, and good natured well-informed debate. The debates about Sodhi, Wagner and Guptill have been none of those things. As noted above, they have been repetitious, obsessive and boring as hell. They have also been unpleasant and acrimonious, which is one thing that I have not previously associated with debate here.

On the upside, the weather forecast for tomorrow continues to improve.

How obvious is the bowling plan to Rutherford. Just watching him on the video it seems like all you have to do is go short and directit at his body. A bodyline field would work almost perfectly to him. Makes you wonder how England let him get away with his debut score.

Hey did where a lot on his body on his debut, remember that huge bruise he had on his right bicep.

NZ Team is unchanged from the last series.

Not really surprising, but disappointing that I wont have the pleasure of watching Jesse bat.

More disappointing that we're playing a guy who has no real chance of any effective contribution for the side in Sodhi.

He might score some valuable runs down the order ;)
I have just accepted that he is the status quo for the rest of this year. I hope he comes good but logic would suggest it is a while away.

Sounds like a pretty good pitch.
From Stuff:

New Zealand will remain unchanged for a third successive cricket test on what looks a pace bowler-friendly pitch for the first test against India at Eden Park tomorrow.

...

The Auckland pitch looked much greener than it was for the thrilling draw against England in March and McCullum said it was a definite bowl first surface if he won his first toss of the India tour.

...

Coach Mike Hesson's call in December for green, bouncy pitches to assist the home pacemen and unsettle the Indian batsmen looks to have been heeded by Eden Park turf manager Blair Christiansen.

"It's got a decent covering of grass, albeit funny looking grass at one end. It looks hard as well so we expect a bit more bounce than what there was against England and hopefully there's a bit of pace as well. I don't expect a huge amount of sideways movement but there may just be enough," McCullum said.
What is this "winning the toss" McCullum is talking about?

Odds are heavily favouring the draw. If the pitch is that good it should be decent value to bet on India and/or NZ ($4.50 and $3.40). Bookies obviously predicting some rain.

There will be some rain. Day 2 in particular is looking quite dodgy. But it's always raining in Auckland so Eden Park has pretty good drainage. If the pitch has as much bounce and life as McCullum says I reckon we'll get a result, especially with all the cloud cover that's likely to be about.

Should be a fair bit of cloud about and there is suppose to be cross pitch breeze, the weather today has been overcast and still. The sort of weather that usually occurs when it is about to s*** itself but I trust the blokes at metvuw that the worst of it is going to push to the east.

If we draw the first test it will be on the back of a Ross Taylor triple. Mark my words.
Its been a long time since Ross scored any runs at Auckland, iirc not since the 3-0 Chapple Haddle series where he was phenominal.
Hopefully he is due.
But if the pitch is anything like last year any number of the top 7 can score big.

Can't see Fulton and Rudds getting more than starts. KW, Taylor, Watling and maybe Anderson are the only ones who you can depend on to score runs on a road.

Fulton may score runs if it's flat and/or he gets through a good dozen play-and-misses at the start without edging one. Can't see Rutherford scoring runs unless it's really flat, in which case he'll score a hundred from 80 balls.

ND vs. Canty has hit the vault ftr, no great Sodhi wickets to bring you. An ump pissed Hendrix off briefly.
