Disagree with both you and blocky regardless of the lineups you've posted anw, Southee and Boult are quality. They're the fourth best new ball pair, arguably third. As an overall attack I think England edges them out.

I reckon they're marginally superior to Johnson and Harris in NZ conditions with the new ball, possibly English too.

And more than marginally inferior in conditions everywhere else in the world.

I ran the stats a while ago and specifically in the first 20 overs with bowlers 1 and 2, I think it was pretty similar.

There's a huge, ridiculous difference with the old ball though. You've got to remember that England got off to starts of 2/82, 1/57, 1/90 etc etc.

Johnson and Harris aren't so reliant upon the new ball.
