Most of what you have said here is total horse**** but you have touched upon the glaring technical deficiency that results in him being a walking wicket against better bowlers when they are supported by slips
Nicking off really isn't a big technical problem for Marsh IMO. Sometimes he backs himself to play shots he probably shouldn't, but that's a shot selection problem rather than a technical problem outside off (which would involve defending with an angled bat, or defending too wide when you could leave, ala Bailey). Marsh's biggest technical weakness is that he can plant his front foot straight down the wicket early when he's playing forward sometimes, which can make him fall over to the off side and be in lbw trouble playing around his pad when the ball moves late. A bit like Watson, but not as bad.

Is Peterson going to play? Australia will be frothing on him playing.
Yeah, looks that way. I'd be going four specialist quicks and use Duminy as the spinner and the fifth bowler, but it looks like they'll just go with three proper bowlers, an seam bowling allrounder and Robbie P.

Who would be the fourth quick? Is Marchant fit?

The thing about Smarsh's India debacle is that if the **** was averaging 50 in the Shield then sure you'd probably still drop him, but you'd be keen for him to show a bit and get him back in cause he'd be at the top of the Shield pile. But with his record well **** him. He's Quiney class. Those ****s should count themselves lucky to even get close to a Test squad. If they win the lottery and actually get called up they'd better take to it straight off and keep performing because they've more than used up their credit getting a baggy green to start with.

If (and I doubt it is that much to do with it) he averages 35 because he's an arrogant **** who thinks he's too good for Shield, then **** him twice over. Like I said I don't think it's that, it's just he can't handle the pressure of four day fields and bowling, but the different tempo and tactics of the shorter forms suits his game. But say it is a case of him just thinking his **** don't stink, what message is his selection sending? He sure won't be thinking anything as mundane as actual performances apply to him.

In general, footwork is overrated when it comes to an individual with the hand/eye coordination of someone like Marsh who I put in the top echelon of pure talents that I have ever seen

For example, if you look at guys like IVA and Ponting, they were hardly textbook with their footwork but they generally presented a full face and sent off stump deliveries back in an arc between straight mid-off and wide mid on (i.e. back where they came from with a margin for angle)

IMO, Marsh is different in that his regulation defensive shot to an off stump delivery from a right handed bowler sees the ball end up between mid off and cover - that means he is presenting less than the full face and presents problems if it moves either way

Furthermore, no prizes for guessing what happens to your balance if you're set up is designed to hit in one direction as a default

And 'dubbers, I ask you this because I want to have a discussion about why you think he won't succeed. At the moment all you've said is because he averages poorly in Shield. That's not a reason. Smith isn't going to have a meeting with Steyn and say 'yeah we'll bowl to his poor first class average'.
Had a good chuckle at this one, must admit.

This is going to be the toughest tour for Smitteh to perform on. If he makes runs in South Africa then he's fully fledged.

It should go without saying that Steve Smith is perfectly correct to attempt to ruin Marsh's career

For some reason I'm quietly confident tbh. When he really knuckles down he seems to know exactly what he's doing these days against the moving ball. Not perfect, but he could make some really valuable runs in an innings or two.
