***Official*** India in South Africa 2013/14

Has anyone noticed that the SA commentators have been far less condescending to the Indian batsmen this match and have not just always spoken about what SA are doing right or wrong? In 2006 and 2010 I always felt like they had never seen Laxman's epic innings and whenever India did well (Jo'burg 2006 and Durban 2010) they spent most of the time talking about what SA do poorly.

They haven't nearly done that as much here. Of course they have mentioned SA's faults in bowling too short, but they have praised India plenty here. Wonder if its because they have been genuinely surprised and impressed by the young guys, as opposed to wanting to make it known that South Africa have gun batsmen just like India's fab 4/5.

Always been the biggest criticism of SA's commentators. Rather than just being **** (India's comm. team) or cheerleaders (C9), they just used to be condescending and not discuss the other team much. Hasn't been the case here.
I was about to say something like that. But remember, prior to 2006, India had never even won a Test match in SA. Just drawing in SA was considered a nice result.

Awkward moment when Ganguly has 3 of the top 10 scores by a indian at Johannesburg.
Ganguly was our best bat in 06 tbf to him. Was a better player than his record suggests. I think Captaincy started affecting his batting towards 04/05 before he was dropped. Otherwise he would have averaged 45-46 IMO.

"I stlll believe there's something in the pitch to keep the bowler interested", says Shastri as the ball hits a major crack. Oh really? Whatever led you to that belief?

This so much. God they fly under the radar as the biggest bunch of ****s in commentary.

That's a mighty big range...

His first innings half century knock in Jo'burg 2006 one of his underrated test innings tbh.
Yeah good knock. It is funny though that a batsman with such an obvious weakness against the short ball actually did well on occasion against Donald and co

450 lead or tea, whichever comes first imo. Play sensibly this session then go hard at them after lunch.

All the way to tea would be way too long IMO. Wickets come in bunches but partnerships can still be built. Four sessions is really pushing it. Probably mentally too, if SA come out knowing that.

I do think the 450 will come first though.

If it doesn't, then we're maybe looking at a 400ish total, which I'm not really comfortable giving them ~130 overs to chase. Maybe Dhoni has more balls than me though :p

Just go for it now guys. Rohit, Rahane and Dhoni are still to come. Just try to rack up some quick runs and declare half an hour after lunch. We need time to bowl them out, not to mention the weather can have a role here.
