Regarding Raval, I'm actually trying to contain myself because he seems to good to be true. Apart from a couple of minor things he's a technically sound young opener scoring big domestic runs and looks pretty classy. New Zealand hasn't had that in forever so I'm becoming pretty convinced there is a trick here somewhere.
This surprised me when I read it earlier. I can't say I've seen much of Raval but I don't remember him having a particularly good record and always thought it was boosted more than usual by flat-track runs. Checking just now I see he has been a bit better than I remembered:
- 350 at 42.75 in 11/12
- 750 at 41 in 12/13
- 319 at 79.75 in 13/14 - a good start this season

I always assumed people were just including him in their future sides (for later this season and in the 2018 thread) by default - because he's been the only young untried opener performing reasonably domestically. But really just a placeholder for the continuing merry-go-round of NZ openers - it's hard to not forecast a failure to step up just like every other moderately skilled domestic opener that's played for NZ in the last 10 years.

Anyway, will no doubt get a go before the end of 2014 so we'll find out then.

Danny Morrison is posting under the alias Rich

Rich: "@Jay jay and Stephen - Bracewell actually offers quite a good contrast to Boult and Southee. He's a bit more of a seam rather than swing bowler, hits the deck hard etc. I feel like Wagner is a stop-gap until Bracewell gets back into form. Milne will eventually be a good option but as you say - injuries.

PEWS will laugh at this but with the way Wagner's bowling atm all that's working is his bouncer, so he should do a hobo's Johnson and just try and hit ****s. He has no radar atm to bowl properly.

Bit of rain drifting in, but nothing likely to halt play yet. Wouldn't mind a nice 2hour lunch break for Southee and Boult.

Worth grumbling again at genius captain McCullum for enforcing the follow on, then bowling our best bowlers for two over spells each. It's just baffling.

Hopefully the rain freshens the pitch up a bit (so Wagner can bowl moar bouncers into it)

Sorry but enforcing the follow on and then giving your strike bowlers 2 overs each. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Yeah, I was in favour of enforcing, but not if Southee and Boult are only capable of bowling two overs each with the new ball. That's nuts.

Did I stumble into the England forum?

The biggest bunch of whiney bastards I've ever come across.

“What's with the Bouncer barrage? Use the pitch you dumb shunts!”
“I told you it would rain.”

“McCullum is just a terrible captain”

“LOL, and now Wagner in the attack. Starts with a no-ball. GTFO.”
“I knew it. Way to use the new ball, McCullum. FFS.”

Miserable ****s.

Haha, fair point when we're in such a dominant position. Tbf that just means we're all the more braced for disappointment .

Still I have another one:
There are whispers about Boult having tweaked something in his leg, but we'll have to wait and see for more concrete news.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
