I hope this pitch only gets flatter because I can see us chasing a nervy 200 batting last if things go awry in this 3rd innings.

Lol @ Macca. "If you enforce the follow-on, you take losing out of play." He's obviously never heard of Headingly '81.

Sounds like amazing bowling from Boult - was clearly feeling in perfect rhythm and that he could put the ball wherever he wanted. Brilliant.

Very gentle stuff here.

LOL, and now Wagner in the attack. Starts with a no-ball. GTFO.

Sorry, but this is just the balls-out, "gotta be aggressive", macho bull**** that saw us batting first in South Africa.

Wagner on after 4 overs. FMD McCullum.

It won't matter as much here, as the softer outfield and overcast conditions will help Southee and Boult after lunch, but it's still a waste. And a no ball first up. Yuck.

How is it that Wagner can only dish up 125 km/h half-volleys? It's not like he's been bowling all morning

Is it likely to rain? Otherwise I don't think this is a good decision. However I don't see WI scoring much more than 350 so a target of 100 should not be a problem at all. Some thing in excess of 150 will definitely cause a few alarm bells to go off though, particularly if last match was any evidence.

People will find this hilarious, but this is one of the rare occassions where I'd consider enforcing the follow on. Get them back in while the wicket is still fresh. Still... Southee and Boult have been bowling for an hour already, so the timing is kinda unfortunate. If it hadn't been for the rain yesterday this would've been happening last night and the innings break would've coincided with stumps. If that had been the case then yes, enforcing the follow on would've been correct. Right now, probably better to bat again and stick them in 10 overs before stumps.
Yes I do.

This happening at the very very start of the day's play is another reason to be wary about enforcing - if it goes wrong we spend the whole day in the field and run ourselves ragged. Saving grace may be that we get an enforced break due to rain later. Enforcing the follow-on does become a good decision if we get rain breaks for the rest of the test, though I see no rain is forecast tomorrow and Sunday. This time I would have leaned towards batting again for a bit.

Lol @ Wagner. The guy bowls one decent delivery in 10 in between bowling no-balls, juicy half-volleys & generally spraying it all over the shop. And all this at a rapid 127-132 kms

This was ****ing stupid to enforce after our new ball bowlers had bowled all but their first spells. And yes, I said that before McCullum enforced.

Big day domestically boys. Milne and Bennett are gonna be bowling shortly and my boy Milne has his chance to book a test match.

If you had Bracewell as 3rd seamer you might consider it, as he could bowl with new ball from one end bowling 10 overs straight and rotate Southee and Boult at the other end. Instead Wagner will waste the ball.

EDIT: Looks like they are enforcing - Anderson deserves to be first change bowler.
Yep, with this attack (and assuming Boult and Southee are fresh i.e. not this innings), McCullum's bowling plan should be something like:
- Boult and Southee 5-8 overs each, possibly one of them splitting their spell like Southee did first innings, coming back from Boult's end.
- Anderson first change 4-6 overs
- Fill in a couple of overs with Williamson. Or if Ryder in the team, fill in a couple of overs with him.

NO WAGNER OR SODHI BEFORE 25 OR PREFERABLY 30 OVERS.

Or we could select a new 3rd seamer after this match if Wagner can't turn it around.

I'm only on radio atm but 125kph is way down on pace and he's not getting any swing. Something is obviously wrong and he needs a spell on the bench to gather himself.

Bet this was actually out.
