New Zealand are now in an excellent position, but it has to be said this pitch looks pretty ok to bat on now. The number 11 was hitting through the line ok there.......

Get through the new ball and we should be ok I reckon.

Pitch should look a different beast with some bowlers who can actually hit the seam and bowl on a good length 5 out of 6 balls imo. Saw some promising stuff from best at times before he reverted to smacking it at his feet.

Yeah but lets face it this is a 350 par score pitch even with half decent seamers bowling, not the 200 all out fare we thought might be a possibility. The utter ineptitude of our 2nd string pacers and some enterprising batting has allowed New Zealand to be 100 runs in credit IMHO. Still, we're in a better position then we were in Dunedin, so I'll try and keep positive for now.

I just hope the batsmen show more class the pathetic bowling unit now!!..to let the last four wickets get 130 runs is just typical of these clowns!!..

Best= 4/100 not good enough!!..the guy is a joke i don't want to see him in a WI shirt again

Gabriel= since he got injured in England he's not been the same and the more he plays the worse he's getting

Sammy= they said his bowling "suits" these tracks!! (smh)..well you could have fooled me...pure crap as usual from the "captain".

Shillingford= i'm starting to lose patience with him now!!..done well when attacked in the second innings of the last test but in both first innings when it's time to restrict NZ and put pressure on he's gone missing big style!!...it's been poor and perhaps it's time to go back to Narine now!!.

Best is a bit of a Wagner in some ways - length all over the place, sometimes gets it right and hurries decent batsmen up and it makes you think what he could be if he did that consistently. Oh and career figures propped up by wickets in Bangladesh - which shouldn't be discounted since the pitches there don't help fast bowling... but you want to see wickets elsewhere too.

Edit: Another similarity is that both gain little from using the new ball compared to the old

Tino is a 3rd seamer at best. way to unreliable for a new ball bowler or to lead any attack. I still don;t know what the selectors were thinking when they came up with the bowling combinations in this squad. We have never had selectors as bad as this before and that is saying something trust me.

That's way too hasty for me. These conditions were about as unfavourable as you can get for a spinner and Shilly has taken a bucketload of wickets this year with no support at all. Watch Sodhi in the next innings, I bet he gets plundered unless the seamers totally blow our top order away.

Shillingford? Losing patience? You'd know more than me but the bloke took a 5-for in 5 consecutive innings (albeit three v Zim) and could've had 5 more in the second dig at Dunedin. NZ is hardly the favoured dining hall for spinners. If he wants to domicile in NZ and do a Sammy Guillen I'm sure we'd accomodate it.

Best strikes me as a guy who needs a steady Corey Collymore-esque influence at the other end to temper his desire to bowl wicket-taking balls every time he runs in, given the weakness of the options around him.

It's painful because quite frankly any desires of winning this series goes out the window if they refuse to make changes Beamer!!..we have Cotts there and Narine!!..so what the hell they contrived to stick with this mess? the real joke is Rampaul and Holder are going to NZ for the ODI's!!..for me them two along with Roach are the best we have right now...then you can throw in Cummins and Delorn Johnson!!..the options are there but the pathetic selection panel are just in it to serve their "friends"..they've got no mind of their own.

The real joke is Gibson is meant to be a "bowling coach"

I always considered him a genuine rabbit. Must just be adjusting to the extra pace, hes probably been working very hard in the nets
Yeah when things get upwards of 140km there's certainly a change in application, guard (2 feet outside leg) etc. No surprise for a tailender who's not exposed to it as much as the others up the order

Cotterell? The guy who was getting biffed around at 6rpo in the warm up match? And as for Narine, this is not a spinners pitch. Shillingford getting biffed for 15 in one over by the NZ #11 is evidence enough of that.

Yes no-one is denying he's done well of late but the problem is he's conceading far too many runs!!..good spinners know how to shut down an end, but shilly bowls the same way all the time and when the wickets don't fall he's just ends up being expensive. Narine had three poor innings and was dropped!!..it wasn't fair on him and i still maintain that he's the best spinner we have where talent is concerned.

That was one match and only his second in ages!!....there's no way he'd be any worse than Gabriel or best right now.

Yep it's unbelievably frustrating. Holder and Rampaul are our two pacers most suited to these conditions, anyone who watches cricket in the Caribbean knows that but the selectors don't apparently. We could have had an extremely useful pace bowling attack with Roach, Rampaul and either Holder or Best as the 3rd seamer but alas a combination of injury, selectorial stupidity and the continued presence of Darren Sammy mean we are having to watch this rubbish.

Tempting fate there Windie. Cotterell hasn't had any bowling since that match and as you say it was only his second in ages. If he takes some overs to remove the rust then I can see why they passed him over for this match.
