That was an inch away from going over the stumps and bouncing over Dhoni's head for 4.

ABDV, seems like a very impressive innings from him. Difficult to see india chasing this. Rain to the rescue

Virat Kohli (c)
Haha indeed. He's probably the best limited overs cricketer in the world alongside Dhoni.

Ishant can still have a Zaheer/Anderson type career. He's 25 ffs. What do India expect when they bowl him on dead wickets in high scoring ODI's 90% of the time.
Bowled really well for his first 3 wickets yesterday. Just sad and pathetic that India's seamers don't see more even-balanced conditions like that (ie good batting wicket, but some help early on)

South Africa has a different approach towards dead rubbers than teams like India.

Always pressure to win.
Please... They rested half their attack. It was obvious how they looked at this game

While on topic, I think it was stupid to rest Steyn and morkel. SA have played precious little cricket this year anyway, and it's not as if they have a 5test series coming up

lol you clearly haven't watched that much of Ishant, especially of late. He has gradually lost his pace. His seam position sucks. And he was never that accurate unless you set your field for short and wide long hops to be bowled. Especially for tests, he struggles to pitch it up without straying down leg side.

Even if there was help for the seamers early on with grass left on the pitch, there's no way of getting around the fact that Indian pitches are going to have low bounce. So India's faster bowlers get used to bowling back of a length because that still gets them bowleds and lbws pretty consistently. You just can't bowl Ishant's line and length anywhere else and expect to take wickets consistently. Some Indian bowlers have shown they can pitch it up in the channel, like Srinath and even Yadav in Australia (I realize I'm dealing with a paltry sample size). Until Ishant shows me he can pitch at least the odd delivery up on a good line, his case seems a bit hopeless for test cricket.

Problem with Ishant pitching it up is that he gets no movement and will just get driven all day unless he's bowling on pitches like you see in the Windies.

yeah okay, that is why Steyn, Morkel and Kallis were rested then?

But yeah AB in particular seems to take a lot of pressure in dead rubbers. MoM in both dead rubbers against Pak and would have been yesterday too.

What prevents us from making fast pitches in India? Is it impossible because of the weather or is it just instructions for groundsmen to not make such pitches? I think they genuinely tried to build pace friendly wickets in a lot of grounds in India 3-4 years ago and could just come up with roads because of the conditions. They scrapped that idea because they couldn't get results and went back to turners recently imo. Seem to remember a lot of grounds where the pitches got re-laid.

There are tons of seaming wickets in India. Wankhade typically has quite a bit of bounce in it for the first couple of days at least.

Arjun would probably be able to answer this question better.
