No we're not we already about 30 past a good total. But yes, it was irritating nonetheless.
You really think there's that much in it for the bowlers? Because from the softness of the wickets it seems like we should be about three down and on our way to 500 at this point, rather than 6 down.

I missed most of play except for bits on the radio now and then until the last hour and a bit but from what I heard and saw, while the dismissals were soft, there was some movement on offer if the ball hit the seam or was pitched up. Probably won't stay that way though and the Windies can bat even on a greenish deck so I want 400 to be safe.

edit: not a fan of judging the deck before both sides bowl though. New Zealand bowl a diifferent length with a different modus operandi so it will be interesting to see how they fare compared to the back of a length at pace the West Indian bowlers prefer. It may well be using the extra bounce on offer was the right move and we concede 500 after all. Let's see.

From what I saw that's primarily because the West Indies spent the majority of the day bowling way too short, or bowling their spinners on a first day green wicket. Whenever they pitched it up, the batsmen looked pretty uncertain, as shown by the straightforward chances off Taylor and Rutherford in the morning. This is definitely a 300ish pitch.

I went to the game my memories
- being relieved when Taylor got dropped early doors
- Listening to Tino Best grunting after each delivery and gesticulating at fielders wildly. he is so animated.
- Loving some of the Stroke play. Kane's pull shot off Sammy  Taylo's late cut off the spinner for four  Corey Anderson sizing up the situation and deciding to move the field back by hitting over the top as clean as a whistle
- Rising to my feet with the entire Basin Crowd to applaud a Ross Taylor century. It was the highlight of my live cricket watching life.
- He looked a bit ginger while running through his whole inning so I hope he is ok.
- Baz's bat sounded a bit off and made a funny sound each time he hit it.
- The Windies during lunch break practiced their slip catching and were dropping one in 5 catches.
- Not sure why Tino was trucking into the wind - what were the commentators saying about it.
- Sammy got smacked every time he dropped it in short.
- Anderson is a beefy guy
- Shillingford bowled for a leg slip Redmond style dismissal all day and the crowd around me were bitching about it.

Random comment - once we lost the toss. The next goal was to bat out the entire day so that at least we got the silver lining of another nights sleep for our bowlers. I realise they probably would have been good to go but I was concerned about fatigue.

So from what I've gathered the WI have wasted good bowling conditions and NZ are now ahead of the game. Correct?

This pitch will be as flat as Dunedin on days 4 and 5. Definitely need 100 runs from the tail.
Hmmm not sure about that. It's meant to be overcast tomorrow, and there's rain forecast for Friday. Should help to keep the wicket fresh.

Another throw away comment - when we inspected the pitch at lunch Best's or Sammy's right foot had in my opinion been landing in the danger area. Sodhi will have a target if he bowls from the RA vance stand end to the left handers.

Pretty jealous i'm not in welly
As reluctant as I am to replace Bruce Edgar my childhood hero and fav player - the path that Ross Taylor has trodden over the past 18 months has been difficult and demanded much of his character. These past two innings, his 200 and this century have been very powerful when set against that backdrop. Although we would have stood and clapped for any NZ centurion I would like to note that everyone stood at an instant without looking to the right or to the left of them or worrying that they might be the only person standing. And we stood as long as we could. He is a remarkable New Zealander and I am proud of him.

Taylor should be embarrassed of his First Class Average.

But seriously,16Tins e-mailed me as soon as Ross hit his 100 exclaiming his devoted love for the lad, and who can blame him?

He's our best batsman since Crowe, and conducts himself like a champion as well even though captaining his New Zealand side and the shenanigans afterwards would have been difficult.

I was annoyed, as I was hoping he'd go out tomorrow and make enough runs to start to push the NZ record for most runs in a calendar year. It's about time that record fell.

Although I was disappointed that Rossco got out so late in the day, and to a needless shot, it was still a very good knock.

I would be happy with 400 tomorrow. BJ needs to BJ and play score another useful 50 with the tail. Southee's gonna Southee and whether he comes off or not will go some way to determining how close we do get to 400.

Can Taylor get his average up to 50? His average at the start of this series was 42, so there's no reason why he can't if he keeps up this rich vein of run scoring. Needs to keep being greedy. As far as I can tell, we've never had a batsman with a 50.00 average after say a cut off of 1000 runs or more. Crowe got his up to 48 in 1992.
