Is Anderson considered to be the one of the best six available batsman for New Zealand at the moment, or is he partly in there to get through a few overs? Not a cynical question btw, I'm genuinely curious.

these two will see it through for a while, but ffs, why has the bowling only turned up today?

Sammy is actually bowling really nicely here. Hint of away swing and the odd one that seams in.

Not by CW, but who knows what the selectors think. He's been selected as an allrounder first though, initially to allow us to play two spinners.

But it's at 120kph so it's terrible.

More sincerely, where was this from the **** yesterday? Was deadset bowling like a second XI bowler for some West Indian club, and today he's bowling quite like the archetypical kiwi domestic medium pacer (to steal Cairns' example).

He wasn't initially - he was behind Brownlie and was brought in because it allowed us to play 2 spinners with one of them being Sodhi who's quite wayward.

But he did score in Bangladesh so that might have (erroneously) shuffled things around

Sammy goes. Not sure whether this is good or bad for West Indies in the terms of the series. Says a lot about how the other bowlers have performed.

Gee it's a horrible thought but it would be possible to be a bit cynical about the Sammy injury.

Cricinfo comment: "What NZ does miss is a true all rounder much like Murphy Sua back in the 90s."

Had NZ taken a suicidal 2 there, they would have been safe in all likelihood because Ramdin, as always, can't be arsed running up to the stumps to collect the throw. It's so lazy. He probably is the best keeper batsman in WIndies but I definitely understand why their fans don't like him.

Cruel but true. Sammy going off the pitch with an injury is the single most positive thing to happen in this test so far. Don;t like saying that, but the it seems the only way we will be able to have a stronger lineup for the next test.

seriously? pretty sure you've got bigger issues in Gabriel and Best. Sammy did his 3rd seamer job pretty acceptably when you look at how they've done.
