This declaration may only give Bangladesh a small chance of winning, but it gives us significantly less again. Really can't see us getting anywhere near ten wickets here.

Yeah, saw a cute little comment on cricinfo that said McCullum was "breathing life into the game", lol, neither team given a chance to win by this declaration

Cricket is supposedly on Sky Sports in 10 minutes or so. Apparently.

Sky subscribers should have been able to watch it on SS5 - a channel set up just for today as there was so much sport on. Telstra (Vodafone) customers didn't get the extra channel though, it seems?

Amidst all the discussion around our bowling attack, it's been missed that Anderson has done a tidy job with the ball this match. 2/34 in the first innings were handy figures too.

His 2nd innings dismissal was a bit of a worry. Probably nerves though.

Watling is far, far better than Ronchi.
Really? I wouldn't agree at all. Ronchi has better first-class batting stats, in a much stronger domestic comp, and from what I've seen is a far superior keeper.

Interested to know why Watling is preferred.

Ronchi looked like a piece of crap in the ICC tournament. I realise that the common CW logic is to judge potential test performance by FC performances - but I reckon you can read something into limited overs performances. And if that seems unfair you will find good company with Neil Broom's supporters.

He also did not look convincing in the HRV cup and often look overwhelmed by the bowling and or the situation.

Fair enough, I haven't seen any of his performances at all since he moved across the Tasman but I do remember he scored a quick 100 or two for New Zealand A recently.

Watling is a better wicketkeeper from what I've seen in tests, and to his credit he has been arguably our second best batsman after Taylor since coming into the test side (including being the only non-muppet in SA bar Brownlie's ton), and balance wise he isn't a one dimensional "thats the way he plays" biffer and he has a better technique than Ronchi. When you already have McCullum at six Ronchi at seven is disquieting.

Watling's domestic record has an asterix next to it because most of it was spent as a mediocre FC opening batsman. Ronchi's last few seasons in Australia weren't very good iirc and when he came over here he scored all his runs down the order, and the Colin Munro Rule clearly states all runs scored below number four in the Plunket Shield don't count.

Also one gets the feeling Watling would crawl over broken glass for the team, as is seen in his acceptance to get shunted around roles. Ronchi is over here for purely selfish reasons.

And **** it's all happening here. KW looking much better than part time.

So then he goes to the boundary.

Geez we're watching Bucko's career end today. Not the best thing to see.

edit: well barring the no ball that over was ok.

You're just irrationally downplaying Ronchi's ability because you disagree with the fact he's even eligible to play for us. He's scored two centuries against a strong ND attack with Tim Southee in it, two centuries on the A tour, and 2 or 3 others in the last 12-18 months. Not many players in New Zealand could do that. He's definitely the better gloveman as well, although Watling has been tidy so far.

Quality option for us IMO, but Watling's earned his spot.

That's a very good point. He would have to perform very well domestically to displace someone who has been a loyal kiwi for his whole career.

I have to agree with that though. When he played for Australia his keeping was impeccable, even when his batting form is very sporadic.
