Not sure anyone ever doubted his ability, just his durability.I think we've seen enough of rhino now to call all the haters in the combined xi (and various other pre match places) thread out now right?
I always imagine Burgey waking up and hearing that Bell scored another ton to be like that clip from Downfall where they're giving Hitler bad news. With Bell scoring 3 tons in this series, and 4 tons in his last 5 tests against Australia, surely its time to ask if Burgey was more wrong about Bell than Spikey was about Hilfenhaus.
One would have thought Spikey and Hilfenhaus could never be challenged. But Burgey is seriously tasting.
If he'd failed then I think there would definitely have been questions about his place.Bell shouldn't have been having to prove people wrong this series.
Yeah, the fact that he has five more fifty plus scores in Ashes cricket than Michael Clarke shows it. Would probably have a DoG great innings if he had the Cook at his best mentality. If he'd failed then I think there would definitely have been questions about his place.
He really needs to go on with it though, 4 Ashes tons and his highest score is 115. His problem, 1st series aside hasn't been scoring runs, it's been scoring significant runs. Bell goes to 150 and it starts to look like 3-0.
Especially when you consider Bell has more tons than Australia do combined.Yeah, the fact that he has five more fifty plus scores in Ashes cricket than Michael Clarke shows it. Would probably have a DoG great innings if he had the Cook at his best mentality.
Still a bit of a raw deal to say his runs this series have lacked significance though. What his centuries have lacked in quantity they've more than made up for in the difficulty of the circumstances and importance in the match context.
Yeah fair point, could have worded it better as it was more a reference to past series than this one.Yeah, the fact that he has five more fifty plus scores in Ashes cricket than Michael Clarke shows it. Would probably have a DoG great innings if he had the Cook at his best mentality.

I think it's a bit unfair to compare with Cook in many respects. Having spent a large part of his time batting at 5/6 he has been routinely stranded/batting with tail/declared upon before he would have had the chance to get the massive scores.Actually, when I say significant I meant quantity of runs, not importance. He's passed 50 17 times in 39 innings yet doesn't yet have a massive, really defining innings.
Definately.GingerFurball;3116837[B said:]If he'd failed then I think there would definitely have been questions about his place.[/B]

People were suggesting he wouldnt make a perfect fitness xi in the thread I mentioned. Seems questionable. Not sure anyone ever doubted his ability, just his durability.
