*Official* Fourth Test at Chester-le-Street

One thing Clarke's been really good at is his field placings. It's all very well criticising England's batsmen for lack of intent or whatever, but I've lost count of the number of times England's batsmen have played good looking shots straight to fielders for no run. That sort of stuff really helps the bowlers create pressure.
Trott just mentioned this on TMS as really cramping them

Root averaging 11 for the series minus his 180 and its surely Bairstows last innings for quite some time next knock unless he tons up.

Bairstow just looks like another Bopara/Morgan to me, T20, ODI player and not cut out for tests.

Anderson's averaging 78.2 without his wickets at TB as well. Shambles.

Glad I turned off and went to the driving range when I did. Bairstow is ridiculously bad. We need to ditch him ASAP, and bring in either Carberry, Compton or Taylor. Don't care which one, I just know they'll do a better job than Jonny. Probably a bit early to be talking about the bowlers too, but I really would be seriously considering Onions for Bresnan, and Tremlett for Broad. I do firmly believe that England's strongest XI is:

Cook
Carberry/Compton
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Root
Prior
Swann
Tremlett
Anderson
Onions

Not that the current line-up isn't good, but if Tremlett could stay fit and they'd have the heart to drop Broad, we'd be left with a much stronger side.

Ridiculous, Broad so much better then present Tremlett or Onions ever. It's just wrong-headed to suggest otherwise. Why does it need heart to drop a better player?

You may as well recall Simon Jones for his best form, rather than Tremmers.

He does, time to send him back to county cricket and see if he responds and sorts out his technique. Still a young lad so can't be written off totally but needs to score bags of runs to justify a recall.

There is no way dropping Broad is something that should be considered at this point. Absurd.

Broad won't be dropped. Not for a long time. The revolving 3rd seamer will continue though. I assume Tremlett had locked it down around 2009/10 but then his body fell apart again.

Bairstow has to be dropped. The guy is only 22 and i'm sure he will come back. He might scratch out a 50 in the second innings to give him one more game but who knows. I've said all along the Compton decision was wrong but they won't be going back on it. I also severely doubt Carberry will get a look in at his age.

The general negative outlook on batting that has been creeping in since the 4-0 against the Indian's needs to be stamped out. Management and Cook need to take a look at themselves really.

Also anyone think KP might pack it in post return ashes? Never really know where his head is.

Figures, for all sorts of reasons. Not least he may well fancy far more time with wife and young kids financed by various 2020 leagues for a handful of weeks each year.

Hard to disagree with any of your other points, btw.

He's certainly not a retire after the world cup player and he clearly doesn't give a stuff about ODI's as it is. Maybe he wants one more crack at a SA away tour. I can't see him being here for the next Ashes in England.

I'm suggesting all series, nay all summer, the soap dodgers give no credit to opposing bowlers. Is it that difficult to understand?
You have too many reds with your rib eye last night Burgmeister?? What a load of bollocks mate.

Haven't seen an English poster here or anywhere that hasn't paid all due credit to your bowling lineup.........doesn't mean we aren't bitterly disappointed in our batting performances though.

Perhaps you'd like to regale us all with your consider opinions once again on Messr Ian Bell and Graham Swann.....you know they highest runs scorer and wicket taker for the series. I know you just love heaping praise on the two of them for the quality players they are.

Think before you drink before you post:dry:

I agree with Burgey.

All throughout the home and away NZ series, it was "England are being complacent" rather than NZ actually playing well.

I could understand it if they were talking about allowing our batsmen to score >400 (because let's face it, Peter Fulton...), but the way the press dismissed some brilliant bowling from Southee and Boult was pretty arrogant, tbh.
