*Official* Fourth Test at Chester-le-Street

For Bairstow haters, that is the exact sort of innings where a batsman gets dropped, so that's something to be happy about.
Yeah, Compton's career was likely finished with an innings like that at Headingly against the Kiwis. Don't know if it's worth it for one last test in a series though. Unless we lose and it's a Bopara/Trott like situation.

It's exactly the sort of call that usually gets given these days, swiping across the line at a straight ball. Horrid batting
Oh yeah the shot deserved to be out, suppose clipping the stumps is still out as well. Still like to see more certainty from umpires before they trigger someone,

Was about to make that exact point Athers was saying re: back in the day if you swept to an offie you were dead.

England are a very poor batting side, but Australia have been relentless today.
6 English batsman average above Australia's second best batsman so I don't know about very poor. Just lacking a bit of confidence against a good attack, having retained the Ashes.

Ultimately this is Cook's/Trott's fault for not going on, the top order began the grind then hung the middle out to dry

Yeah our batting line up has been crap since the last Ashes pretty much. Need to drop Bairstow now. Broad should have a smash, no point in hanging around.
Well JB will get one more chance, in the next innings, but he's been worse as the series has gone on, and he wasn't exactly Bradman at the start.

I'm being a bit extreme yes. More overhyped really.

Does anyone else find it funny that as soon as Cribb made that post about footmarks helping Lyon more than Swann, due to Swann being better around the wicket, Lyon has bowled everything around the wicket and got four wickets :p

I think its the perfect time to blood a fresh batsman. Give him (presumably Taylor) a Test and see if he can book his ticket on the Australian tour if he performs well.

Khawaja got dropped after a really laboured innings and the selectors sighted his inability to rotate the strike as one of the main reasons. You would think the English panel would think something similar about Bairstow at the moment.

Haha yeah I was thinking that. It's not really a technical thing with Lyon though; he's done it because of the conditions.

While Trott can be blamed Cook got a good one. They showed it was the widest ball of all his leaves to Bird which were all going past another set of stumps
