Is it too early to declare Dale Steyn as an all-time great?

An ATG bowler for me.

In this era he also stands out because of a dearth of other good fast bowlers but right up there in the tier with the best of the best.

I think if he stepped out in front of that hypothetical bus tomorrow he'd be certainly remembered as a great bowler based on what he's done so far. Superhuman strike rate.

Trouble is we don't know how the rest of his career will shape up yet. Could be another Waqar who went from deific to merely very good after his injury woes. Steyn has a quite similar MO, so...

Disappointing lack of a nickname for Steyn too. Going to start calling him Arthur, tbh.
Yes, well someone one on here took to calling him "Rat Face" in the not too distant past.

Yeah, he is because if he has 5 average years (takes 150 - 200 wickets @ around 30) his career numbers are still up there with most of the great quicks ever.

There's no doubt that he is an ATG. A mire interesting discussion would be when he went from fantastic to ATG. For me it was the 7-fer at Nagpur . After seeing him rip apart our lineup on a pitch with nothing in it, I just thought to myself that this guy can do everything.
The only ATG so far from this generation of bowlers. I back Anderson to get there soon and Philander to if he keeps averaging 10

I think 300 would be a good nickname for him. 'This is SPARTA!!' face and all (and the 5th fastest to get past 300 wickets context). Would make a good younger version of Leonidas too. Should definitely be a part of 300 part III

And he is not going to be another Waqar. He has a great outswinger. That never goes out of style.

I think Anderson will be remembered as a very good bowler. Constantly threatening nowadays.

Anderson is in the good bowlers category and will probably finish his career as such.

Ranked alongside the likes of Brett Lee, Jason Epilepsy, McDermott etc. Well dizzy and McD were probably significantly better bowlers than Anderson

Being a good bowler at international level despite suffering with epilepsy is truly inspiring!

Anderson as he was in the first Test vs Gillespie in his prime? I'd go for Anderson, he showed incredible skill and endurance in that game. Has seemingly suffered for it since though.

Gillespie in his prime was significantly quicker AND more menacing than Anderson. Probably got wickets faster and cheaper too (cbf looking it up). At their peaks I would probably take Gillespie at least 5 days of the week if not more.

Anderson had too many years where he was super inconsistent for me to consider him as a great.

No doubt he's lethal at best, but I can't help but feels he's slightly over-rated.

Jason Epilepsy has always been underrated as a bowler. Really really good bowler.
