well, 5 nil, Zim were never in it, they need to play Ireland/Bangladesh'Afghanistan a bit more often, not good enough

Zimbabwe should be playing teams 5-8 on a regular basis in order to improve. Beating up on the affilitates isn't going to help them improve. They should also be sending youth teams and A teams all around the world, but financially this isn't possible. Zimbabwe cricket really is a sham at the moment. There's a good chance the domestic competition is going to be cancelled this season due to a lack of funds. It's getting ridiculous

Really? I am one of those who'd bite at the prospect of a Zimbabwe XI coming through Kenya on an annual basis. On a more predatory note the end of ZPL could send one or two grizzled vets Kenya's way to for the East Africa Competitions

This Yuvraj-Singh-swap-without-the-batting-skills was poor all the way to his 58th game and was dropped since March/April 2012. Only since his recall in Jan 2013 did the captain's faith and the regional officials' lobbying bear fruit.

ICC news : Ravindra Jadeja jumps to No. 1 in ODI bowling rankings | Cricket News | Cricinfo ICC Site | ESPN Cricinfo

One doesn't top the rankings by being a bad player..

Seeing as a previous number 1 bowler was Mohammed ****ing Hafeez I think there's something deeply flawed in the ODI bowling calculation method.

Virat Kohli (c)
Makes sense to me that the #1 bowler would be from the reigning World Cup and Champions Trophy Champions. Also makes sense to me that it'd be Ravi Jadeja. System has a "rockstar" calculation I believe.

In all seriousness though, if his point was that bad players don't get to the #1 bowler in the world, I'd agree. Ravi is not the best bowler in the world, but he's a very good ODI cricketer.

Whatever it takes!!!

yeah, it is like this: being the #1 ranked ODI Bowler in the ICC ratings does not mean you are the best or even one of the best ODI bowlers going around, but it does mean you are one of the bowlers who has put in the best and most consistent performances in the ranking period.. End of.

Ravi was pretty close to the best bowler in the CT, so I'm not too concerned about him getting the number one spot, looks like second spinners who bat a bit get a good run in the rankings

See my comment about Mohammed Hafeez - the rankings are clearly ****ed up if he gets ranked so highly.

it's based on stats though, and Hafeez plays a lot of his matches on low slow turners playing second fiddle to Ajmal where he just has to hit the spot and he'll get wickets and keep the runs down, it's probably not the system that is ****ed, you just can't use it as the only way of determining who the best bowlers are.

He takes less than 1 wicket per match - that he is near the top indicates that the system is ****ed.

All cricket bowling should be about wickets primarily - a team does need a mix of bowlers but most of them should be wicket takers so they should be the one's rated higher. A wicket taker would be successful bowling in the middle overs of an ODI innings, an economy rate man wouldn't be anywhere near as successful outside of his comfort zone.

Maximas

Cricketer Of The Year
An economy rate man could help his teammates take wickets though.
That's why Hafeez is so good, he ties down an end, allowing ajmal to weave his magic, often after a brutal opening spell from Irfan and Junaid, while Marc's argument that the wicket takers and matchwinners should be up in the rankings, the consistency and ruthlessness with which Hafeez and Jadeja and whoever else carry out their bowling should also be rewarded.

Having low economy rates is also essential to India's method of ODI cricket anyways.
