*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

Match situation possibly why he didn't today, nerves got to the England bowlers (bar Anderson) but plenty of freebies for the Aussies were missed which would normally get tonked.
Yesterday too though. One over in particular where he bowled three in a row to Clarke.

Thought he was very lucky not to get smashed tbh. Bowled a stack of full tosses which weren't dispatched.
Yeah Swann bowled poorly in this Test. He did bowl a couple of threatening spells across the duration but he was very inconsistent throughout and genuinely poor today. In saying that though he completely turned the game on its head with his spell yesterday after Broad got the breakthough. Two jaffas and suddenly Australia's top two scoring specialist bats from the first innings are back in the sheds for 17 between them on the stroke of stumps; would've lost without that.

According to the commentators, they third up wasnt fully convinced by the hotspot either, so went to hear the real time audio to besure.

Correct decision in the end i guess.
I think the 3rd Ump was convinced by the hotspot but felt that the world would say he didn't have enough evidence. Given the amount of pressure the umps are under in an ashes match its understandable. I'm certain Haddin hit it from a personal pov, pains me to say but there you go. Always take the good and the bad, the lucky and otherwise.

To be honest both sides have had good, bad and ugly in this match in their own minds. At least it wasn't one side getting ALL the bad decisions all the way through. Just a worry that we only have 4 umpires over the whole 10 tests and it may be a recurring theme as I have no faith in Erasmus and Aleem Dar was off form in this one.

I agree Swann's spell was a very decisive one. But I don't think the footwork of the Australian batsmen was good enough to a solid bowling spell. I'm only taking away from Swann's bowling because I can't see a pitch that slow being all him putting pressure on the batsmen, even at that stage of the game. It wasthe poor batting. Unfortunately we got close enough that the changes that should be made probably won't be made.

Yeah the amount of close decisions going both ways makes me think that it had started to become emotional to the umpires too. Trying to balance the bad decisions against each other.
EDIT: close decisions against each other

That's the value of Swann, he'll nearly always do something important.

Fantastic victory. Watching the highlights now, how good was Jimmeh's spell 13 over spell! Could have Haddin a couple of times, lucky to get as many as he did. Finn simply has to go though. I was all for his selection, but for me, Onions needs to come in. I don't really like changing a winning team, but in this case, Finn had a really poor game, and Onions bowled pretty well in the tour game. I'd be tempted to replace Bairstow with Compton too, and move Root down to 6, but maybe give Bairstow one more go. Team changes aside though, a fantastic win. Bell played a magnificent knock, and one that will hopefully have put a temporary stop on the Bell haters, and do we need to say any more about Jimmy? If he bowls like this the whole series, surely a knighthood has to come his way? **** Andy Murray. Arise Sir Jimmeh.

Anderson is my favourite bowler to watch. His control of swing really is unparalleled.

Thought Broad bowled very well in that last innings tbf, the pitch was horribly slow but he was very accurate.
yeah I'd agree.

Finn's been innocuous and expensive for so long, I would've thought swapping him out would have been a bigger priority than Compton.

Pretty much sums up his career against Oz and that's why he averages 40+ against us

According to his mother, the Burgeinho summing up when Haddin was given out was

"Ah ****.

****in' Poms".

Hard to argue with that.
