*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

Yeah not a bad session for either side.

Really can't decide if Australia have bowled well or not though.
Closer to not for me, not much consistency there at all in what were pretty good conditions most of the time for bowling. Can't help but think how someone like Bird would have fared here. Reckon he would have done really well.

Trott is ice cold though. Seems like he has no fear whatsoever. Was like that even on his debut against us, which was today incidentally.

It's completely even IMO but I reckon England will be the happier dressing room.

For all the movement in the air Australia haven't really built up a huge deal of pressure on England.

A gem to get young Rooooot though! Does that kid have a left leg/front foot?
Yeah, not too convinced in him as a test opener. Said when he was picked it was a mistake and he needs to get a feel for this level at 6. Bairstow better front up or it will be a diabolical move by the selectors.

I reckon England will be happy because they'll know they're bowling on day 5. The track looks very flat, very dry and very ordinary.

Indeed. And he was the worst offender. His lack of overs is showing.

First morning of the series I would take 1-28 (5) over 0-25 (9). Especially as the ball for the wicket was a good one, not a batsman gifting an easy wicket to the bowler.

Ian Chappell maintained that if both the openers were back in the pavilion by lunch then his team were in front. I would tend to agree in general, but in this Test match Trott and Pietersen are both looking in top form thus tilting things slightly in England's favour at this point.

I reckon that Clarke should let Agar have a proper crack at Pietersen after the break before he gets settled. If he's lucky enough to claim his wicket then that's a huge psychological boost for Agar, and Pietersen's hoodoo against left-arm spin continues.

Yep, we've got that up our sleeve but the Aussies will probably get the best of the 1st innings batting conditions.....think I heard the cloud cover will be gone tomorrow and the sun will be out.

I agree. I wasn't having a crack at him. I'm a Siddle fan. He's just the sort of bowler who needs a lot of overs under his belt. Especially considering he doesn't play any short form cricket.

Add in that they have to bat last on a dry wearing pitch and we'll be pretty happy. I'd say 350 is a good score to get and it is very possible right now. If you were an Aussie anything over 200 in the 4th innings could be a really tough chase.

Absolutely, it's seemed to me that he should be rated higher than he is, reminds me a lot of Kallis
Yep, he is a terrific batsman and looked in ominous form. If Australia were 98/2 and we had Cowan on 37* and Clarke on 10*, England supporters would be saying get out Clarke quickly after lunch and we are a good chance of rolling them. Both wickets are vital for Australia, if Cowan (or whoever bats at number 3 for the series) can get within 100 runs of Trott in the series, I'll be happy.

Siddle really has to work on his pace though. I don't think he topped 140ks once. Really needs some meat, actually looks a bit gaunt around the face.

Tough no doubt but I'm pretty sure most Aussies would take us requiring 200 runs to win with 10 wickets in hand at the start of the 5th day.
