*Official* Warm up Matches Discussion

Yeah true TC, after your comment I did another quick search online and found another article which was less critical of Siddle's form, mentioning Boof being happy with Siddle in the second innings at Taunton so ignore me.

Still, a 12 wicket haul from Harris or Bird and a none-fa at 4.5 an over from Siddle in the next warm up match could potentially see him axed for the First Test. Other than though, he will play.

Big day for Bresnan this IMO. He's reminded everyone what he brings with the bat yesterday, now he's got to do it with the ball. Ground is dry, pitch is slow, and Saj was getting a bit of reverse yesterday. England will probably finish their innings around lunch time, so by about the end of the day, when reverse swing is most profitable, England will be bowling with a 40-50 over old ball. Not to different to the circumstances Bresnan bowled in at the G last Ashes, or against West Indies at Trent Bridge last year.

Why didn't England just declare overnight? I don't really understand what these extra runs from the bowlers will prove.

Clarke (c) Haddin (VC) Agar Bird Rogers Cowan Hughes Smith Faulkner Harris Watson

so

batsmen picked: rogers, watson, cowan, hughes, clarke, smith
keeper: haddin
bowlers: bird, harris, agar, faulkner

they've not revealed the batting order so i posted the groups to make it easier to figure out the team structure/who is playing. i'm opposed, damn opposed, to faulkner's selection

Yeah, I definitely would've given Starc or Siddle another go over Faulkner. Heck, even Lyon. Two spinners would've been okay given that Watosn has been given the go ahead to bowl (?).

Top 7 is closer to what I'd go with first test though.

Very surprised Faulkner is playing again. Would have thought Siddle would have needed another bowl before the test. Unless of course they are going to pick Faulkner at 7 and Haddin at 6 in the 1st test.

The game finishes on July 5 and the Test starts July 10, perhaps team management doesn't feel five days is enough rest leading into the first of 5 Test matches for our Test attack of Pattinson, Starc, Siddle and Lyon but figure the batsman and keeper need to get used to the conditions. Unless I've missed Wade's injury, it doesn't appear as though Boof rates him that highly since he is the only squad member absent from both games.

Faulkner would make it 6 bowlers.

Onions need to hang around with Bresnan for the latter to get his ton.

If Bres gets stranded short of a ton I'm going to bed. Don't even care it's 1pm. I'd need somewhere to go and cry.

Hmm hope I'm wrong, but going by those selections and comments from Lehmann, it just looks like Siddle has a guaranteed place in the first test. I can see why he might be viewed as that kind of a player, but he very much shouldn't have such immunity imo.
