Doesn't come close to outweighing the advantage he hands to the bowler by driving through the off side when the ball is swinging and there's 5 in the cordon.

EDIT: Can just imagine Broad seeing him play that shot and thinking "aw crap, he's playing his natural game! bad news for us."
He smashed it for 4!

And then did it again!

Result: Broad and Cook stick a guy on the fence with the oppo needing 450 more to win

Interesting to hear Smithy saying Paddles was driven by stats. Nice antidote to all those players who say they don't care about the figures.

& Smithy and Athers have to be trolling Beefy, surely? 'Twas the great man's record he broke, wasn't it?

Well, there's all the stuff about putting pressure back on the bowler, as little as that may be etc etc, but there's also the point that if he puts that way, then he becomes slightly pointless
Hmm that's a bit of a vague cliché. If they attack because they think certain bowlers will react badly then it might make sense, but I don't think it does. This England team have generally thrived on batsmen playing loosely outside off.

He would probably just get bored not playing any shots. Which is fair enough, but we don't have to pretend there's a good strategic reason for it.

Yeah, that was a brute. Broad's getting one or two per over to really take off. Finn could be a nightmare on this if he isn't ****.

Rutherford is so crucial to New Zealand if they're to save this game. Stops Swann from just monotonously targeting those footmarks outside offstump, and forces the seamers to constantly adjust their lines.

Swann has bowled beautifully in this match. Looks like one of those cases where missing a series through injury has seen a player return to form.

Should we have reviewed there? (Shout on 121/3 if you're seeing this later)

No replay here but it seems like there wasn't much to lose
