This guy commentating with Nash is annoying. Describe the ball and then let Nash continue with his anecdotes, dick.
Thought Nash did a good job of not getting annoyed as the other comm interrupted him and talked through the rest of the over.

Very pleased with that start. Feels weird to have an opening partnership that doesn't fail 9 innings out of 10; can only imagine what our middle order must think of this.

Just got this sudden feeling that this series is destined to end with the same scoreline as the home series against South Africa last year. Now predicting we lose 5 more wickets before tea. Especially since, if we batted well and scored 80/0 this session, we'd be starting to apply pressure to England and that gives us nosebleeds.

A little quiet on here since lunch. English fans gone to bed, NZ fans afraid to post for fear of jinxing?

NZ fans don't know what to say when there's nothing to complain about.

Radio described Williamson's two third man boundaries there as edges, cricinfo described them as guides with an open face - which was it? Sounds risky either way.

Half and half imo, he was defending with soft hands and the full face of the bat. Took a thick outside edge but was always going down.

Guides. No risk at all.

NZ doing well, pitch flat, but FFS this bowling is terrible. Anderson bowls a leg side full toss, followed up with short ****. Awful.

Anderson is annoyed, as he's been a few times this series. Can detect the mindset from the England camp that NZ aren't doing the right thing by not just rolling over. This is part of the reason I wanted us to bat first ftr. If it's a flat pitch and we can bat England out of the game (still a long long way away), remove any chance they have of winning, the very last thing in the world the English will want to do is have to bat for the best part of three days to avoid an embarrassing series loss. Even if it's a flat pitch. They'll just want to say **** this, go home and think about the Ashes. That gives us a chance imo.

NZ need to be ruthless here, great start, really need to keep batting. Even if the run rate is low, who cares. Grind it into the ground!

BTW, on Cricinfo people are complaining about the pitch. FFS NZ fans are tough at giving credit to the Blackcaps. It might be flat, but credit when it's due, they are doing well!
