Watching Finn was just thinking back to when Jason Gillespie made a double ton for the Aussies. What a bad day of cricket that must have been, watching a non-batsman bat all day!Appreciate the job Finn's doing here but hope he doesn't stop me watching a decent innings from KP or Bell, etc.

Trott off to a flyer in this innings so far. S/R over 100 at the moment. Getting close to NZ thinking on a different line to Trott.

Yeah, it's not a great tactic that, Neil. Turns out IJL's pretty good off his pads.
Do you not think it's worth trying early in his innings though ? Possibility of over-balancing and just missing one that tails back in before he gets set. I think it's a worthwhile ploy but I think you have to be flexible in re-assessing that plan quite early if Trott looks in good touch.

Like Finn's positive approach now.

Wagner bowls two gems and four pies every over.

He might have a 4fer in the first innings but he keeps proving he's no Wheeler, and there's several right armers who should be ahead of him too.

In saying that this pitch is Napier-esque and you'd have to be Wasim Akram to have any chance bowling here. He's earned himself a run in Wellington.

Reckon the best way to get Trott early is to bring one back into him before his feet are going.

Bowling on his pads tho is feeding a strength, IMHO.

It is a risky ploy by bowling straight to him as it can enable him to get off to a flyer because it is an area where he is so strong, but a strength can always be a weakness especially early in an innings where the feet aren't moving properly and the balance may not be perfect. Once set you certainly cannot afford to be too straight to Jonathan Trott as he rarely misses out through the legside.

Which will inevitably result in bowling a few on the pads. You can't really have one without the other.
Well maybe a few, but I mean starting from outside off and bringing it back in, not bowling on his pads and swinging it wider yet.

Obviously Wagner's disadvantaged by being a cackhander in this regard.

Obviously England's plan will be to bat the entire day, so at what point do we just throw the ball around our batsmen to protect our bowlers?

Surprising that England aren't turning up the heat on NZ and trying to force them in an uncomfortable chase. Safe cricket it seems.

Athers and Smithy going on about how NZ's chairman of selectors is a crown green bowler.

Why I am just hearing this now? I mean, that's properly mental, isn't it? It can't just be me...
