I feel for Flynn though. I do rate him. The guy does have talent. And yet it almost never comes off. Even when it does, it is usually for a low-key 30 or 40. When he bats well, he looks so good (especially through the covers) but he somehow just seems to have a lack of the thing called application or concentration or both.

An ambitious attempt at a drive to a fullish wide ball while facing your first ball, and that too while being on a pair, can't really be explained otherwise.

A Kiwi version of Rohit Sharma, in my opinion.
I disagree with this completely. Flynn to me looks like a limited batsman which he is. He does have some grit but Sharma has a far better shot range, is far more stylish and seems to have more time to play the ball.

Flynn makes batting look difficult and as you said his main problem is that even if he manages to get himself in a reasonable amount of times, he is terrible at making any type of score. We've heard complaints about Matthews and Watson both struggling to turn 50s into hundreds, Flynn finds it difficult to turn 20s and 30s into 50s.

I didn't intend to compare Sharma to Flynn with that last statement of mine. I only meant it to highlight the analogy.

Anyways, you're probably basing your judgement of Flynn being limited on his inability to play through the 'V'. And he indeed plays square of the wicket most often. What stands out in those 30s of his is the good placement and the nice sound off the bat when he strokes a ball through the covers. The sound thing might have to do with his good timing or just his bat being of a top-notch quality, but his shots do give a glimpse of the talent the guy has.

The conversion into big scores thing is obviously a problem, and at the moment, a problem looking too big to send his test career into a dark tunnel.

NZ needs 279 to ave 180 per innings in SA this series. Almost halfway there and your two best batsmen are still in.

 What do SAs do with cooking oil that's related to cricket?

If it's a ***ual thing, I don't want to know.
It's just visibility. Nobody I know goes out to buy a specific brand of cooking oil, because it's never been advertised like that. A sponsorship like this is trying to change this, in the sponsor's favour.

I mean what has KFC got to do with cricket for youngsters?

Surely Hesson must go after this series?
It would be nice, but sacking him would mean that the Board and CEO would have to admit to being wrong. Which is never going to happen. Their response will be to try and make Taylor look bad. Again. That is much easier than having to accept any sort of responsibility.

Besides, Hesson has spent his entire adult life trying to become a cricket coach. What on earth would he do with his life if the Board sacked him? Actually, I suppose he would make a great parking warden. He already has a clipboard and I bet the local Council would approve of his "positive intent".

Hey the game's still going. Thank **** for the BJ Brownlie rescue squad.

Guptill's dismissal really does sum it up for him. Straight ball moving in tiniest fraction, backlight coming down from the slips, feet in the air. Seemed beaten for pace almost. Just not good enough for now.
