A pretty good statement of intent from Pujara this. Would drop Gambhir and play him in the first match itself.

The Ranji Trophy needs a serious overhaul, including at least two big steps-

1. Abolish all knockouts, and instead, establish a Super Eights group, and maybe, adjust the group stage accordingly. Qualification for the Super Eights should be the top eight teams across all three groups, not just the top two of each. Then, we may have just the finals, which if drawn, will result in the trophy being shared, or else, the toppers of the Super Eights should win the trophy.
2. The standard of bowling and batting is very poor, when the national stars are away and the domestic regulars are out injured, as is the case this season. The BCCI should allow for inducting foreign players in the league, two per side, from countries in off-season, or other professionals not playing for their countries. This will make the league more competitive.

Pujara may be touted as an India prospect across formats (not T20I, please!) but the bowlers he faced will never play for India, maybe never ever. There's no excuse to cop out of taking 20 wickets when you need to win a match.

Don't get why Pujara slowed down today and also kept batting.

He could have gone for Lara's record if he carried on at a Quick pace, and if not India had a match tomorrow and this match was all but over.

I guess he won't be playing tomorrow, even though the match is in Rajkot.

Also, need to sort out the Pitches and the stupid rules that encourage draws. Mumbai And Saurashtra have prepared roads throughout and reached the Semi's.

Pathteic wickets prepared by home sides for the knock out matches too. Best ptich was at the neutral venue.

Nah, tour games by visitors have shown even below strength Ranji sides to be fairly competitive and definitely FC standard.

Ranji stats really need to be treated with caution for obvious reasons though.

Nah, Ranji trophy is FC class especially the 2 top tiers, considering other such leagues around the world.

What needs to be done is restructuring of the Ranji Trophy and changing of rules and conditions.

And With respect to Duleep trophy it needs to be made longer than the knockout format it has right now.

Thank **** for Agarkar. Sachin scored another half century as well, imagine if India was banned from International cricket and he played Ranji all the time, **** would have an insane FC average.

Saurashtra's doing fine without Pujara as well. Bhajj as meh as ever

Would rather like Services winning Vis a Vis Mumbai. Mumbai lot have won many times and are a pampered lot anyway.

Was watching the Saurasthra vs Punjab match and it's close to a dead flat track with that super quick outfield as well. Harbhajan was **** and didn't deserve 2 wickets either.

The 2 Punjab bowlers that were impressive were the leggie Sarabjit Ladda, who was turning it on day 1 on that track with accuracy and also the seamer Siddarth Kaul who seems a good talent. Reached 142 K in this match though majority of his balls were around 135. Here's him bowling during this match -

Saurashtra captain. What a mediocre record after 76 matches and many other in all forms and he is still captain.

And guess what he is the son of Niranjan shah, former secretary of BCCI and also currently of SCA. :

What do you guys think of Shami Ahmad as a test prospect? I still remain slightly unconvinced of B Kumar but Shami Ahmad as a long form bowler really appeals to me. His FC record is excellent so far but he's only been in the game since the last two season. He's also improved dramatically from being a good, solid bowler to being properly gun in the 2012/13 season with 28 wickets in 5 games @ 21.

At any rate, massive ****ing improvement over Sharma.

Yeah definite test prospect. Bowls a good, wicket-taking length and has a nice seam position. If he can maintain that pace in test matches, he should go well. Heard Akram saying that he can bowl reverse as well.

Seems to bowl good lengths regularly and Skids on at a decent pace with good seam position.

Am also a bit unsure about BK in Indian conditions. Will do well in SA though.

Shami Ahmed is a interesting one, btw. Doing very well for Bengal in the elite league. Should be up for a India call up maybe too ?

Bowls around 140 KM/hr too.

Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Ishwar Pandey, Siddarth Kaul and Shami Ahmed should be groomed and should be taken care by our bowling coach from now on.

Called it first.

Watch out for all the other names too. Sandeep Sharma is probably not ready and still slow but the other 3 are doing consistently well.

Then there is Sandeep Warrier and Ankit Rajpoot who have come onto the scene and doing well.

And lastly, the ignored Pankaj Singh.
