There seem to be a plethora of decent left arm spinners around in the domestic circuit at the moment. Basically all the best in form spinners seem to be left arm orthodox for some reason. Can count about 8/9 who are doing better than Chawla who got into the test team for being a Leggie presumably. :laugh:



On another note, Rishi Dhawan scored his third century of the season to go with 35 wickets. Turning out to be a good seam bowling all round prospect.

I'm not too optimistic about these 'spinners'- many of them just pitch it straight, ball after ball. Iqbal Abdulla, though, should be a contender for the ODI side- he's a better fielder than Ashwin and got a better strike rate than Ojha, and is also competent with the bat.

Rishi Dhawan, though, will be a good investment for the future. He's got plenty of wickets, leading the tally, and also three centuries, but playing in a weak team in a weak tier won't help him at all. A change of base to Madhya Pradesh will get him noticed. It's unfortunate anyway that Plate league performances are unnoticed because they are 'not Elite', but they compete a lot harder than the Elite teams which often settle for draws.

All those in favour of one point each in case a match is drawn, please show up.

Apparently India need 'young' players. Here are two youngsters who were recently India regulars or prospects. Jaidev Unadkat, who made a surprise debut for India and handed South Africa a Test on a platter, has an average of 74, and Rahul Sharma, a supposedly talented leg-spinner said to be unfairly left out of contention after a rave party bust, has an average of 83. Neither have got more than a wicket a game, let alone ten wickets this season.

That should set aside any temptation to pick Sandeep Sharma, despite his run of form- already Jadeja knows there's a huge gap between Test cricket and FC cricket in India- and his performance in Ranji was highly skewed, and not consistent.

Rohit Sharma scores big again. He was never a poor batsman anyway, but mishandled by the management. He was in and out of the side, and dropped at the slightest hint of poor form. Compare that with Ravindra Jadeja, who had a virtually permanent place in the side despite not being good enough at all.

Paras Dogra, Mithun Manhas and Mohammed Kaif would make a far better middle-order than what we're seeing representing India now. Look, these blokes get runs over 50 regularly in pitches where wickets fall in a heap. So what if they're over 30, or close? They are also so much fitter.

I'm not so sure I want to see another young player in this side, until they start winning again. Let both finish four more seasons before they become India prospects. Actually, nine more, given how much Kaif, Badri and Mazumdar have had to slog.

They can, however, try out Rishi Dhawan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Dhawan isn't going to get much out of playing for a weak team like Himachal, and a move to MP, Rajasthan, Delhi or Punjab will help him.

Shami Ahmed is a interesting one, btw. Doing very well for Bengal in the elite league. Should be up for a India call up maybe too ?

Bowls around 140 KM/hr too.

Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Ishwar Pandey, Siddarth Kaul and Shami Ahmed should be groomed and should be taken care by our bowling coach from now on.

Just saw the Karnataka v Haryana scorecard. Haryana in the first innings went from 178-8 to 560-8, number 7 and 9 (Amit Mishra and Jayant Yadav) both pulled off Gillespies. :laugh:

Mumbai winning by 7 runs was awesome, nailbiting tstl. Sporting declaration from them and MP didn't back down while chasing 311 from ~80 overs either which made for a gun game all round. Was being broadcast in Singapore too, watched a tailender smash Zaheer for a couple of sixes. :p

He did pick up a 5-fer though which is great for him, though his career with India is probably over at this point.

Zak getting 5-fer is good news, hopefully he's back for the Aussie tests, it will also be interesting to see if Tendulkar gets in the Mumbai Ranji squad for the games for practice before the Aus series.

Ishwar Pandey kept pitching it wide outside off. None wicket-to-wicket. Central India can favour the seam/swing bowlers a lot more than the far West or most South venues.

MP vs Mumbai was a cracker of a match. This is what we'd like to see from Ranji teams. Initiative to win.

Cricinfo user comments about Sandeep Warrier are a bit over the top, though.

Pujara has double tonned up in 4 hours. Tough conditions in a low scoring match.

It seems he is toying with the best bowler of the season, Ishwar Pandey too.

Pujara's knock sounds beastly considering how the rest of the match has panned out.

His first fifty came in in 88 balls, the second in 63, the third in 51, and the final one in just 17.
