i have had enough of khans attitude as well, he thinks he can just trundle up to the bowling crease and bowl 77 mph and stay in the team

India v England, 3rd Test, Kolkata, 2nd day : India find ways to fine-tune sloppiness | Cricket Features | India v England | ESPN Cricinfo

So being the fielding coach, and given all the limitations of looking after arguably the worst fielding side in Test cricket, did Penney try to tell Dhoni to get the placements right? Penney's response stopped short of stating helplessness. "It's difficult sometimes with bowlers," he said. "Some of our fielders can't field everywhere. So they have got to go into positions like that. It's a pretty difficult situation sometimes…

"Sometimes in Test cricket you get to a position where people you'd rather have at, say, point but you have them catching because some of the bowlers might be tiring."

Ground looks empty. Everyone must be at the beach or the shops.
it'd be so good if india lost the series and the public turned on the players.

they deserve nothing else. their reputations need to take a severe beating. they have to be brought down from their super star levels because the way they stop trying once the opposition has any sort of momentum is appalling.

Great start to the day, sensible cautious approach to start and now pick off the wayward stuff from the quicks with the harder ball. First time in a long time that Trott has actually looked comfortable at the crease.and Cook is just Cook,

One side note, sad to see a champ like Zaheer struggling so badly, been a star over the years but looks like the end is near at present. Looks exhausted already today.

Are you of Indian origin? There is a commercial promo for the current series that shows on Star..typically obnoxious, garish, jingoistic trash, tagline being "angrezon ki bajaa di poongi" ("get one over the Brits" to put somewhat mildly). I haven't tuned in to the broadcast for this game but I wonder if they'll continue showing that after we lose this Test

I think BD might be able to pull one over India in Tests going by current form. Or alteast push them very close.

this is hardly "test" cricket. more like benefit match. you don't even have the pressure to score quickly like in an ODI/T20

We've had Mike Brearley picked for his captaincy. You've had Bob Willis get a man-of-match award for captaincy. Would you also drop Dhoni for captaincy? There are alternatives for the post of wicketkeeper-batsman, in Saha, Kaul and Karthik, so it can be an option.

Somehow, I feel the Indian way of dropping struggling players, even if they're the best, instead of returning them to form, is now taking its toll. The number of times Ishant has been dropped now seems to show, as he keeps getting worse with each recall, which is really sad, as he's still a much better bowler than several other prospects picked for India. Instead of dumping him, the coach and support staff should have worked on his weaknesses and tried to find solutions, and build upon his strengths- but they've done nothing. He still shouldn't have been picked for the Test on the back of no active cricket, when you have Pankaj Singh and Parvinder Awana gobbling up batting sides in Ranji.

Criticisms still mount on Ashwin, Ishant and now an over-the-hill Zaheer. But what about Ojha? His opposition counterparts take three times as many wickets in half the deliveries he bowls. When a slow, flat bowler with no bounce or turn is this team's best bowler, they are in trouble. I'd say much of the team's struggles are due to Ashwin's poor form.

No part-time overs for Yuvraj?

Not the best option; however Ashwin or Ojha are hardly doing the job.

Good to see more turn for the spinners now. Might just be the harder ball but there will only be more tomorrow and day 5 so we are really in a great position now. Bat till lunch tomorrow hopefully and make them bat 5 sessions to save the game.
