Isn't he skipper now. So maybe that has something to do with it.KNB's record suggests he should really be at 7 (if anywhere).

I call it investing in the future. Both CD's and New Zealand. It is a good idea to have at least a couple of prospects in your team and give them a chance to contribute. Young may not even get a dig this inning. The best way to develop peeps is to make them earn their stripes and play to win; not give them handouts for one reason or another. It would be absurd to bat van Wyk at seven given the success he had last season.
Derek de Boorder obviously not one of them though; probably expects him to open the batting with Guptill. And Astle bowling 12 overs to Johnston's 41 is a very interesting one, purely based on a scorecard. There's certainly a lot of domestic players who can't see the merit in Astle's selection
He's a young offspinner. Haven't seen him bowl so can't comment on his quality but you don't get many 22 year old specialist offies playing in the Plunket Shield, let alone taking five wicket hauls, so that alone probably says a lot.Wagner getting Stewart lbw first ball must have been a goodie.... video of it anyone?
And Johnston is new to me - what does he bowl and is he any good?
Haha quite right. He would have taken a quiet satisfaction in his 95 from behind the stumps.Derek de Boorder obviously not one of them though; probably expects him to open the batting with Guptill.
Get upped overnight. I'll do three short videos, Canty's late slump, Johnston and McCord's wickets, Sinclair's play and misses vs. Dane Hutchinson.Wagner getting Stewart lbw first ball must have been a goodie.... video of it anyone?
WAC. Scores a massive ton in the first game of the season and you ****s still want to make fun of him!Sinclair's play and misses vs. Dane Hutchinson.
Fair Dues.Hurricane, can't agree with you champ. KVW needs to be batting as high as he can for both the sake of CD and NZ. For CD's sake, he's in their best five batsman hands down. Should be above KNB. And certainly a U20 guy who scored no runs at the World Cup (minus a minnow). Yes he's a certain pick in the Test side but he needs to become a trusted member of it and offer bigger runs where he is.
That in itself seems an odd decision - his record really isn't that flash. I don't think it's ideal to have a captain with question marks over their place in the side.Isn't he skipper now. So maybe that has something to do with it.
Played for NZ U19s in the world cup we hosted at the start of 2010. Was also the Young Cricketer to Lords in that same year I believe.Wagner getting Stewart lbw first ball must have been a goodie.... video of it anyone?

Murtagh should be able to fill that gap for a bit. It's Johnston's retirement as you mentioned that will really test their depth though.I'm glad McCord has got a couple of wickets. With Rankin now English, there's a vacancy in the Irish bowling ranks
