Btw, if true wouldn't it be a hat trick of English captains for Graeme Smith and South Africa now?
Yeah - takes him one ahead of Border in that regard.

Still one behind Viv Richards who saw off four in one series though.

Just quickly, I think Tsotsobe bowled really well with the new ball yesterday. Thought it was a fine performance that set the tone for South Africa and helped them exert early pressure.

meh there was no point in strauss carrying on as just a player. He's been **** for that long. The only thing he has been good for is his handling of the press and the love and respect the players have for Strauss.

Personally i think it's a disaster with India coming up. Up there with Aus as the toughest place to tour so especially hard for a first time captain. In the midst of the KP crisis. And with no obvious replacement ready (Root is not ready) meaning Bopara will slip back into the team at 4 with a top 6 of Cook, Trott, Bell, Bopara, Taylor, Bairstow - that really is a disaster.

Anyway thanks for all the memories Straussy. You were never a great batsman but you did preside over some great and historic wins for England and handled yourself and your country brilliantly. Congrats on a very good career.

Yeah, completely agree. If anything I'd be more inclined to hang onto him for his captaincy than his batting so him playing on as a batsman wouldn't make much sense unless he wanted to go back to county cricket and try to force his way back in.

Right call, IMHO. Wonder if he'll replace Nick Knight as comm, we could be killing a lot of crows here.

Would bell be an option to open like in ODIs?
They'd sooner open with Trott I feel.

I don't think either will happen anyway; their reserve middle order options aren't really much/any better than their opening options anymore now that the Pietersen gap has to be filled as well, especially since Compton is apparently considered an opener by the hierarchy now.
