**Official** South Africa in England 2012

Hmm I don't think so. He's bowling his fastest this summer this morning and also getting more dangerous swing than he has before.
Oh yeah. I meant over the past few years in comparison to the years before then - his new ball spell would often be around 78mph. Today he is bowling both quick and swinging it. Looks brilliant, atm. World class quality.

Well, many professional bowlers don't bowl flat out, I think McGrath was quite professional, and many others have dropped pace for accuracy, Marshall and Hadlee. Anyway as I say he's not bowling well.
I don't know with Mcgrath re: dropping pace. I think his seemingly mechanical action exaggerated perceptions a bit. He touched 85mph well into the final years of his career. He was never a consistent 90mph bowler and seemed to only lose pace as he played a longer format and got older - which is entirely natural, of course.

I think Walsh would be the best example of someone dropping their pace and putting the ball on the spot, in England 2000 when he was leading wicket taker. Corey Collymore used to remind me so much of later Courtney Walsh that I used to get a bit annoyed whenever he was passed over for selection year after year for mediocre bowler after mediocre bowler.

Well, I'm not one to slag off Broad, he's been brilliant for a couple of years, but he's been dreck today for whatever reason.
'Enforcer' was a while ago. I didn't find it funny because he was rubbish or anything like that. I just found the primal nature of such a title quite amusing.

Its rare that the review system works as excellently as that. Instant review, clearly out and overturned.

Its hard to say. England don't look like they're bowling too quick. Anderson notably has dropped the pace down to concentrate on swing but unsure about the others.

Ooh, where was that? Got a link?

Broad is best when he pushes up into the low to mid 80s.

Bowling speeds this summer
I don't think the speed guns should be trusted. We don't really see the figures from those as players, anyway, but the way I understand it, the speeds have been down for the South Africa bowlers too. There's no way Dale Steyn is bowling at 79mph, I promise you. We use Hawk-Eye data
