I was wondering how they do it - personally I could see Taylor to 4 and Bairstow 6 as the right thing, but wouldn't be shocked by Bell 4, Taylor 5, Bairstow 6.
Yes the option is there for Taylor to move up to four, but I do think Bell should be there at four. The best batsman is missing, so an opportunity for Bell to step up into his position and play a match defining innings (like he did in the ODI's). I'm sure he can still do it at five, but would prefer to see him up a spot.

It's all got an air of WTF about all this, we know he's supposed to have sent some messages to a couple of his mates in the SA team but we don't really know what they were about and neither do the ECB, according to said SA players the messages were a bit of banter and that's it, they could have also been about Strauss the again it may not have been, really you couldn't make this up.

I think there's no doubt that certain people in the printed media hate KP and have done for years and any chance they can they'll screw him over but surely the ECB need more proof than hearsay.

I think he was asked to explain them, he didn't, was given 6 hours to do so too.

Really think the Saffies part in this stinks to high heaven, if it wasn't a big deal, why tell people about it. KPs so-called IPL friends too. All rather unpleasant from all parties really.
I'd say that with our (SA) past history of dubious texts and match fixing whoever got the texts probably went straight to management, who then went straight to match ref \ ICC \ whoever to report it. After that it could of been leaked from anywhere.

Got to be Bell at 4 now, senior man in the team and all that, can't see them moving Taylor up there, the only reason they might do it though is to split up the new guys.

You'd also like Trott to stop throwing his wicket away, I'd assume. Done it in close to every innings this summer.
That's a given and he's not the only one but the starts are vitally important, for the majority of test matches they've been poor and have been for ages.

If they're going with 6 bats, I'd deffo split the newbies, Taylor is more of an accumalator anyway, best to give him time to bat.

If Bairstow is going to forge a place for himself in this team then he has bat in the top six, and if England were willing to bat Prior at 6 I think they'd pick someone like Woakes or play all five bowlers anyway.

Given the context of this match, might Bairstow following Taylor not increase the risk of a collapse?

Given the clarke @ 4 trainwreck, I wouldn't move bell up, allong with that I wouldn't move bell for this test.
Dunno if Bell has voodoo hanging over him though.

Torn tbh. Splitting makes sense from a stability POV but surely you can't be shoving newbies in at 4 when you have a 'senior' player at 5, given you already have one newbie at 6. Unless they're planning a long-term straight swap.

Have no problems with Bairstow coming at seven personally, Prior is a fine batsman and very capable of going in at six while Bairstow gives us the batting depth at seven. No need in my mind for Bairstow to have to bat in the top six, this way splits Taylor and Bairstow up and gives Prior a bit more responsibility with the bat, that he's probably earned.

Why is Bairstow even playing? Get another bowler in there, this is a must win test right? Its unlikely he'd produce much with the bat anyway.
