I'm now convinced that the Lord's test will be Pietersen's last for England. Recent comments by Strauss and Broad, and the rather flippant tone of Swann's response to questions about the parody Twitter account, indicate that influential team members are not minded to accommodate him, and are in fact rather contemptuous of his attempts to force the issue to a resolution.

Once again, as in the "back me or sack me" captaincy fiasco, KP has demonstrated that he is politically pretty inept. He's a proud guy and will definitely walk this time, as it's now clear that he shares a dressing room with a bunch of people who don't have much time for him.

Everyone loses in an incident which demonstrates the flip side of English humour and the piss taking culture.

Don't see the point in 5 bowlers to be honest, also puts more pressure on Prior with the bat which I don't necessarily think is a good thing.

The 5 bowlers thing basically comes from the fact that people want to see Finn in the side because he's awesome in ODIs, but tacitly admit that as of now he's not actually good enough to hold one of the three seamer's spots in his own right given the lack of batting he adds.

Yeah Prior is almost the perfect number 7, is one of our biggest strengths.

I still think (hope) that KP will wan to play the ashes enough for it to be resolved on a temporary basis at least but it would certainly not be a surprise if he walked away.

Yeah, I think it comes from our natural human inclination to feel better about having the best players in the team regardless of balance. Adding Finn or Bresnan to a team just feels a lot better than adding Bopara or Morgan to one even when the latter would be more likely to help it.

New South Wales are a good example of this.

You've got to take 20 wickets this match though. Obviously if it was a sporting deck you may not need them.

Except we were adding Scott Coyte and Sean Abbott and Timm van der Gugten

I think it's more than that TBH, 600 odd for 2. The fact is we have a good bowling attack, but people have been mistaking that for great, it's all very well comparing us to the great oz sides or Windies who played 4, but they had at least 2 great bowlers in those sides, and had back-up bowlers in their batsmen, we don't have either.

We've let teams get off the hook a few times, including the UAE, and it's clear someone like Finn would be better used in very short bursts, where he can bowl as fast as he likes. Swann has an iffy shoulder, Broad has had more than his fair share of injuries, Bres too, and it gives us a chance to occasionally play two spinners, if needed. Would like to see Tremlett back in the reckoning one day too, if possible.

They bowl well, maybe they'd bowl better if fresh.

So, all those points are arguable, but it isn't just one factor, that makes some of us think 5 bowlers..

Yep, since it was all legit the account owners pocketed a tidy 5 figure sum from Pietersen to take it down. Not a bad way to make a buck, parody a sensitive yet rich soul.. wonder if any copy cats will get wise to it.

I don't care if it's Finn or someone else tbh. If Pietersen has a hissy fit and doesn't play, I reckon it's a viable option for a one off test they have to win.
