Courtney Walsh

An interesting side IMO. 2 battling openers. Stroke makers 3-6. A very strong 7 & 8 but not much else to come after - Murali can swat a few. Jimmeh can hang around for a few and then Walsh...

Bowling wise an opening partnership of Walsh, sending the ball down from over 10 foot, and Anderson who can move it both ways on a good length, seemingly at will. Complimented by Cairns at first change. Backing up the seamers will be Murali (nuff said) and Shakib who should compliment Murali well with their differing methodologies and directions of spin.

After your final pick, do a write up if you like. I'll do a voting thread once all teams are finalized...

Are we putting all teams in one poll?

Could it be possible to do something realistic, like create 4 groups of 3 teams each and then have one on one games via polls. And then let 2 from each group quality, and proceed with quarter finals, semi finals and finals

Go for it if you're happy to run it. I won't have time for all that, but it sounds good. Let me know...

Alright I will do it. I think it will be better as it would be pretty realistic and people can picture individual battles and how the game will played on a course of 5 days before voting.

I will draw the groups once all the teams are done.

I was going to pick McMillan here because I was convinced he'd be available. Oh well, Zaheer Khan to share the new ball with Gillespie and create some rough for Harbhajan to use.

01. Gavaskar
02. Jayasuriya (6)
03. Lara
04. M. Waugh
05. Flower (+)
06. Martyn
07. Greig (5)
08. Harbhajan (4)
09. Gillespie (2)
10. Zaheer (1)
11. Akhtar (3)

I don't know what to make of this side, tbh. This is probably the weakest attack in this draft, though it's certainly not lacking in sheer volume of wickets taken or variety. Akhtar's raw pace at first change will nicely complement the new ball pair and an in-form Harbhajan is more than a handful on helpful tracks.

Have to love the batting, though. I have a great opener in Gavaskar, and any partnership between Lara and Waugh would be an absolute joy to behold. Then you get to Flower, the consistent accumulator, and Martyn/Greig, who are certainly no mugs with the bat. The tail's a bit dicey, as they can put up quite a few runs on their day, but those days are just as likely to be few and far between. This line up also gives me a quality, settled slip cordon and Jayasuriya who's lightning in the field.

Overall, I'm happy with the side but not quite satisfied. It was always on the cards once I rushed my first pick though, so I can't complain too much.

I quite like your attack TBY, certainly got some variety. Not a big fan of Flower as a wicketkeeper for your team though, he does provide depth but missed chances can be a huge problem

Although this would be quite interesting, it would also clog up Cricket Chat IMO, so I would just go with the standard voting method. You could always sim the games on Internet Test Cricket and show us the results here

Sorry about the delay. Have man flu and been sleeping most of the day.

Darren Lehmann to finish my team. Fine left handed bat, and handy left arm spinner. Really good "cricket brain" as well.

- Virender Sehwag
- Andrew Strauss
- Stephen Fleming (c)
- Sachin Tendulkar
- A.B. DeVilliers (wk)
- Darren Lehmann
- Andrew Symonds
- Daniel Vettori
- Wasim Akram
- Andy Roberts
- Craig McDermott

Happy with the team considering the narrowness of the draft.

Tendulkar the key to my batting, nothing remains to be said of him that we don't all already know. DeVilliers in the middle order provides flexibility for me, as he is a more than capable keeper and a class batsman, meaning my 7 and 8 can be a bit creative.. Sehwag and Strauss provide strike and stability respectively as openers, and Fleming is a solid number 3 and a thinking captain. Lehmann and Symonds at 6 and 7 could provide some headaches for tiring bowlers, while Vettori at 8 is capable of long innings, and my number 9 has a test double century to his name.

The attack is led by Akram, with his left arm brilliance, and the extreme pace and ferocity of Andy Roberts. Craig McDermott, Australia's premier bowler in the period between Lillee and McGrath, is a fine first change, combining aggression with smarts. Vettori will tie down an end with his nagging left arm spin, while taking a few wickets along the way. Symonds, Lehmann and Sehwag all provide legitimate spin variety as well.

In the field we have the brilliant Symonds to patrol cover/point, and Fleming and Strauss in the cordon. Akram, Roberts and McDermott all very good outfielders.

International 12th Man
Considering vettori doesnt take those many wickets , atleast thats what the thread comparing him to other spinners of inno teams in this forum says

do u think it will be a bad day for your team say u lost the toss and had to bowl first on a complete batsmen's pitch and theres nothing in it for bowlers and your top 3 are struggling, IMO you wouldnt have much of a chance and vettori would have to be replaced with Symonds which might or might not work out

Vettori averages between 3 and 4 wickets per test. More than happy with that considering I have Akram, Roberts and McDermott, and also Symonds, Lehmann and Sehwag as bowling options.

If the opposition can comfortably deal with Akram, Roberts and McDermott, they deserve to beat us!
